I will be cremated in this truck.
Not because the engine caught on fire, the ceremonial burning Viking ship has sailed…

I'd say the Honda Element would be of comparable value. Huge utilitarian box. All wheel drive. Unique style. And even a blue themed interior.

I agree. In all regards, the Maverick hits the mark. It’s literally like Ford Engineers got together and said let’s make a small truck with everything everybody needs in the most efficient way. Don’t ask me why anyone thinks the Hybrid model is a good long term idea. The 2.0 FWD’s are gonna be on the road for 30+ years.

everything except fuel economy, obviously.
Almost 80% of the orders are for hybrids. So of course you see more posts about Hybrid problems than turbo/ecoboost, both of which have had new model issues.

this is a pretty ineffective rebuttal against my assertion that the ecoboost awd Maverick is superior to the hybrid in every way except fuel economy.

if your top priority is fuel economy, the hybrid has that box checked in the 'pros' column.

everything else is a push or a pro for the ecoboost. the post I was replying to asked the cons and I answered.

Well the old Rangers are tops if we want to keep it in the Ford family. Geo Metro still rules overall.

Rangers. heavily discounted back in the day to make them very affordable. A basic 2wd with a stick was dirt cheap. Great work truck and some were available with a 7 foot box. Easy to work on too. Took longer to open the hood than it took to change a headlight bulb. With regular service, oil changes every 2.5K mine was still running like a top after 18 years and 171K on the clock. Engine was a quiet as a church mouse and tranny still ran like a top.

I owned 3 in the span of 33 years.

Pretty much the best little truck for the dirty hands group.

Except fuel economy is THE primary reason for buying a mav (besides it being a truck). But I will bite...I would ALL DAY take the hybrids ecvt trans over the clunker 8sp in the eco...all day! Personally if they didn't offer the mav in the hybrid with amazing mileage I wouldn't even consider. Way too many better options.

can't tow 4k, probably in part due to the ecvt. we have no idea about long-term durability. a few people have had issues with the damper, but I think they're outliers.

I'm averaging 27.2 mpg in my truck with 4k towing. what other midsize or compact truck gets better mileage? I have a feeling your idea of a better option is a prius or rav4.

If I was going to buy a gas only model, the Maverick (or any Ford) is a hard pass. For me it's hybrid powertrain or nothing, from any vehicle platform at this point. Standard automatic transmissions just feel jerky and clunking to me now that I've driven eCVT equipped vehicles for the last 7 1/2 years.

If I wanted a vehicle to tow stuff I'd buy a body on frame truck with 5000 pound rating minimum. Most likely a old used truck, since I would only ever tow for work.

To call the Maverick "The Best Entry Level Vehicle Ever Created" ignores 100 years of automotive history. Go purchase any of the hundreds of excellent industry histories and read it. It's a really fascinating tale.

Automotive history is filled with vehicles that make the Maverick pale by comparison. Model T to begin with - 15 million sold - which brought affordable automotive mobility to America for the first time. The original Mustang, which sold something like a million units the first two years it existed. The VW Bug, which put a decimated Germany back on wheels and gave birth to the VW Bus - the poster child of the hippie era.

The Maverick isn't even all that amazing in recent history. The original Honda Civic in the 70s. The start of the CUV/SUV era with the arrival of the RAV4 and CRV. The Miata - a million affordable roadsters sold to date.

Automotive history is filled with amazing vehicles, many revolutionary. The Maverick isn't even a footnote in that century long story. It's a minor success that at best restores a small market segment automakers stupidly(?) abandoned just a decade ago.

Well the past 1.5years my 22 f150 lariat powerboost has averaged 23.7 mpg and it tows 11k pounds. Just grabbed this maverick hybrid 2 weeks ago... keeping both!
