B&O failure. You’re not the first. No big deal...

Good luck.
.
With the sound the truck was making I would not have been surprised to see a flying saucer above me.Sounds like an encounter of the third kind.
I just sent you a message with the information.Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.
I think I might have to officially make that the name now.Is your Maverick named Christine?
I had a crazy and awful experience with my Maverick Lariat Hybrid today. At one point smoke started filling the cabin.
I left work early this afternoon to finish up some last minute Christmas shopping. When I started the truck there was a very loud ear piercing crackle that came out of the speakers. It was quick but so lout that it startled me. Then I noticed there was no sound coming from the radio. I tried turning the radio off and back on and then performed the soft reset and still no sound. At that point I figured I have a lot to do the next few days so I'll have to make an appointment at the dealership for next week. I had no idea what I was in for just a few minutes later.
I then merged onto the highway and right at that time all four speakers started blaring a jackhammer like sound at an unbelievably high decibel. It literally was painful to my ears. I've been to a lot of rock concerts and this was worse. It wouldn't stop. I put a video below of the sound. I pulled over on the shoulder and turned the truck off and it still didn't stop. So I opened the driver door to get the radio to turn off completely and although the radio screen went blank the sound was still happening at a deafening level.
The local dealership was probably roughly 7 miles from where I was and it was right off one of the highway exits so I decided to drive straight to the dealership The sound was so bad that I was trying to steer with my knee so I could hold my fingers over my ears. I got off the highway exit for the dealership and as I was doing that I started to smell a strong smell of smoke. It smelled like something electronic was burning. I guess over heating is a better way to describe the smell. I would say imagine if a TV or DVD player started severely over heating. Some light smoke started filling the cabin and this point I was less than a minute from the dealership so sped there. I parked the truck and ran inside and asked for a tech to come right out because the truck might catch on fire. One guy ran out and yelled "It's a Hybrid and I'm not trained on how to safely work on them". He then ran to get someone else who popped the hood and unplugged something. I was standing off to the side so I'm not sure what he unplugged but it finally stopped.
Both of the techs were bewildered and said they had never seen anything like that themselves. One of them thought it might be a stuck module but he wasn't sure. I obviously had to leave them the truck and now I have no idea when they'll get to it. I'm definitely worried about what kind of damage has been done. I wonder if the speakers are even damaged at this point.
I took the video when I pulled over on the highway to turn the truck off. I wanted to have something to show the dealership in case it stopped doing that before I got there. Keep in mind the sound in the video below does not even do justice to how loud the sound actually was. I was seriously worried about hearing damage after a few minutes of it doing that.
Does anyone know if the Lariat model has active noise cancelation in the cabin. It kind of sounds to me like ANC went on the fritz and blew up the radio? -- Think of amp feedback loop and it's like that.I had a crazy and awful experience with my Maverick Lariat Hybrid today. Well said and thank you for saying all of that. I'm fairly certain it was not one of the speakers that was smoking because I looked around and visually didn't see smoke coming from any of them. I know that doesn't mean it wasn't a speaker but I really think it was coming from somewhere else.I love how some folks just brush it off like smoke filling the cabin isn't a serious issue. Hopefully it is just a blown speaker - but it doesn't change the fact that this shouldn't happen on a new vehicle. It's also an assumption the system was "overdriven". It's not exactly a top tier quality system with the best made speakers... this can happen due to an overvoltage at low volumes and since this isn't the first report, that seems more likely than someone blasting their music. Even the linked story on the F150 forums reports not even having the music playing at all. Doesn't exactly instill the "nothing to worry about" mentality some are projecting...
I agree it's good you are safe and hopefully it's not a serious issue - but FORD's reputation with fires right now aint exactly the greatest regardless of what people want to believe on this forum. So thank you for sharing and keep us informed. Electrical issues like this are no joke. Hopefully it is something simple and just a speaker, but I can't say I'd trust it after having this issue. It's one thing to blow a speaker due to high volumes, but just randomly like this? Hopefully they can pinpoint the issue, but personally I wouldn't drive it until it's for sure that whatever caused that issue is taken care of and a speaker replacement wouldn't exactly put my mind at ease.
Probably the worst part is now you are out of a vehicle. Did they give you a loaner?
I agree. I own a Mav hybrid. The thing is clicking and clacking - relays running for hours after the key is off. Deep sleep mode every other day. I'm spooked to do any work on the thing myself. I can't imagine how the truck monitors this system or relies on that system. I wanted to hook up a CB but I was afraid of disconnecting the battery. No telling what a reset might do. Any odd behavior is a big deal. By the way, one day I was driving down the road and the truck just shut off! I was in the passing lane of a 3 lane highway. I coasted to the right breakdown lane - shut off the key turned back on and the engine fired up. ?? I love the Hybrid Maverick but there are a few things to fix in the earlier models.I love how some folks just brush it off like smoke filling the cabin isn't a serious issue. I'm not sure how interested they are in helping. I did some searching of the site last night because I was curious if they actually had done anything to help anyone here in the past. It seems like they might just be collecting data and not really doing anything to escalate any issues that people are having. Even before searching I suspected that might be the case but I feel bad for anyone who had any false hope that Ford corporate might step in and and help get a resolution for someone posting on this site.Glad to know FORD is looking at these post and remaining interested.
This begs the question, What are you smokin?lots of noise from the speakers is one thing but SMOKE in the cabin is over the top. Something is very wrong. Hopefully it's wasn't a wire harness that cooked and it was just one of the radio components.
