MPGs FAR below advertised and hype. Are you all telling the truth?

I'm getting 33 average mpg after almost 3k miles. 60/40 highway/city. I understand highway is going to be worse. But I do far amount of city driving too. I use Eco mode EVERY TIME and try to keep it in electric/charging using the coach as much as possible.

So what's going on? Are you guys being serious with the MPGs you're reporting??? BE HONEST

950 miles so far. Total Average says 41.7MPG which probably actually means about 39 so far. I have driven on only NORMAL mode, the only I mostly avoid doing is rabbit starts. I drive a mix of highway and city. What is crazy is I have gotten my best fuel economy on a trip I took today which was 26 miles round trip. Mostly highway, but on the way to my destination it got down to between 17 and 25 mph for about 5 miles. And it reported 50 MPG.

I am still in the "break in" period, so I imagine my MPGs are going to get even better.

Just remember, there are a ton of variables when it comes to MPG.

Details. They matter.
Is your highway speed 90 mph? Do you sit with the HVAC on a lot? Do you remote start it? Etc, etc.
I'll be cold and keep my heat off for a short work commute. Huge mpg difference.

I only have 2000 miles, but have 40.2 mpg average, with one tank at 44.87 mpg and 623 miles. These are in a spreadsheet, using miles and gallons - not the truck's displayed numbers.

Very strange that the '22 Hybrid Mavs were rated up to 42mpg, the '23 Hybrid is rated up to 40mpg, and now the '24 Hybrid is rated up to 42mpg.

All three seemed to show "Combined" 37mpg.
At 33mpg average, you don't seem far off that combined number for your 60 hwy / 40 city driving.

I got my '23 Hybrid March of 2023 and it has been pretty consistent at hitting 40mpg.
I don't change modes...i get in and drive the speed limits (up to 10+ over depending on type of road).

Just this week, I am at 33mpg myself ...but my conditions changed.
It has been in the low 30's temp-wise here near Atlanta, GA this week.
My ICE runs much sooner than it was last week (i run heat often on high).
I just filled up my tank and immediately took a 86 mile (100% interstate drive) at ~70-75mph.
I i got 34mpg for that trip.

All the above to say .. your numbers look fine to me ... or at least they are close to mine.
I'm not worried.

Between cold weather...running winter blend gas and being on the highway more, it just seems "normal".

When spring/summer comes, gas blend changes, and i start doing less highway driving, i expect my numbers to go back towards the 40mpg mark... if not..then i will start looking for issues.

I am averaging 47mpg with 4k miles. It is based on how you drive, climate your in. I get 600 miles to a tank and got 700 on one tank. Try slippery mode, it allows better coasting and braking is different too.
I am not lying. This was my morning commute today. 60mph to 30mph

To be fair you're getting roughly 33% better fuel economy than your 20 year old truck.

Mind if I ask what that truck is?

You raise a point - so when/if I ever do get my hybrid there is a different way to drive it? One that gets you better mileage?
I think if I drove my current Jeep Wrangler differently I could probably get better mileage. I just can't drive behind people doing 35 mph on a 40mph road.

So many little things I learned over time.

Pulse and glide, but you need to let off the gas pedal quite a bit to get into electric, and then ease back into power so you have a good glide.

If I'm entering a freeway or accelerating a lot soon, I don't mind draining the battery and using as much electric power as possible to coast along.

Eco mode can allow me to coast if its slightly downhill even up to 60mph, so I tend to build up some speed and do that if possible.

I'm constantly monitoring my rear-view to make sure I don't inconvenience others.

I know for a fact others here can offer these sorts of tips more eloquently and I bet they are even better than I am.

Honestly I just checked mine in my 3.6L SUV this AM and I am getting 14.8L/ 100km (15.89mpg - US gal) so I will be happy with ecoboost mileage from my hybrid when I get it!

We're at ~9,100 miles, on-board estimate currently says 50.1mpg overall in our hybrid. Who knows how accurate that is, but we usually are getting 700 mile tanks. It drops pretty significantly with the cold Utah winter. This is about 50/50 my wife's all highway commute and me puttering around town; we get WAY better fuel efficiency when I drive (regardless of conditions), but I drive specifically to maximize efficiency. Driving behavior can impact fuel efficiency even more in a hybrid; it's all about how you drive.

2023 XLT Lux I'm averaging 42 on Trip 2 (never reset since purchase) with 10,600mi. 70/30 hwy miles. I will say things have dipped both in town and on the hwy since cold temps have come to the midwest. I am 90%+ default normal mode, have tried Eco and Sport to see how they feel and use Eco on occasion but generally don't remember to.

I haven't been super on the ball w Fuelly, but have been logging when I can remember, it seems the on-board display shows a couple mpg above the actuals. I feel comfortable saying I am averaging 40mpg. This exceeds my previous champion 2004 pontiac vibe which averaged about 35mpg, my honda fit which averaged about 34, my chevy sonic which averaged about 31, my 2020 chevy trax which also averages about 31, and my 2001 s10 which averaged about 21 with E10 and 18 w E85. It's disappointing to me that that best bang for the buck is a vehicle that is so big like the Maverick, but very satisfied with the hybrid.

People are confused by proportions.

Your "old" truck got 15 MPG in summer and 12 MPG in winter. You barely noticed a difference.

Your new Hybrid gets 40 MPG in summer and 32 in winter, and you'll be all "WTF?"

In both trucks, they each decreased 20%.

Mystery solved.

I'm averaging 42.1 over the last 6 months. This is actual mileage, not the inflated mileage that the computer gives. I track it with the fuelly app. Mostly ECO mode in various weather conditions (I'm in Michigan). The cold takes a toll, but I still got 39mpg my last tank. My commute is mostly 2 lane highway (55-60 mph).

50/50 highway / city. Winter weather with heater running, about 39 or 40. Spring time with the windows down and no AC 46 to 47. 600 miles on a tank once. Summer time with AC running, around 43.

I'd look at factors like your elevation, gas you buy, tire pressure (I run at 39 psi), alterations, tonneau cover (will improve mpg) and your driving habits. I recommend slippery over eco for better mileage.
