I'm getting 33 average mpg after almost 3k miles. 60/40 highway/city. I understand highway is going to be worse. But I do far amount of city driving too. I use Eco mode EVERY TIME and try to keep it in electric/charging using the coach as much as possible.

So what's going on? Are you guys being serious with the MPGs you're reporting??? BE HONEST

One of the big selling points was mpg and I have 20 year old truck that I can get 25mpg in with complete disregard for driving style

After 5500 Miles since Sept. 1 my average is 36.81 mpg by my calculations. 27 mile one way commute with 20 of those miles expressway. No regard for driving style, I put it in Eco mode when I think about it. I have noticed this average dropping as weather gets colder. Last tank was 33.65 mpg.

First, let me say I get tired of seeing people insinuate others are lying just because they haven't gotten the same results.

Maybe you need to approach your problem from another direction, like asking for tips on how to do better. There are so many factors that come into play, like how fast do you accelerate when taking off? Is your terrain all flat? How bad are your highway habits? Do you have all season tires?

What are some of your numbers from individual trips? Highway, non highway, etc. Look to see where and how you've done the best and learn.

Bobbyleap made a good point about weather/temp. With only 3000 miles are you in a cold weather state? If so you will do much better come good warm weather.

23 XLT hybrid, 4400 miles since 3/6/23. 70% city, 30% highway. My life long average so far is 42. I see 42-46 in local driving, have hit 50 a couple of times. Worst I've seen on the highway is 36/37 but that has only been 70 mile round trips so far. I do drive very easy, not slow but take off and brake easy most of the time. Just my experience so far.

OP - where in NC? I'm in the WNC mountains, and I'm getting almost 28 mpg average on an ecoboost (year plus, 19,000 miles). There are so many factors to consider. Where are you buying your gasoline, and what grade, and does it contain ethanol? Are they on winter or summer formulation? What are your driving habits? It goes on and on. I don't lead foot but I don't pussy foot either. Just normal driving in a mix of city, highway, mostly rolling.

One thing you might try first is simply a different gasoline station.

PS: My ancient 2010 Ranger manual shirt, 2wd, single-cab got 29 mpg over a decade of use. Actually better than my Maverick. On the other hand, it only had 140 HP and accelerated like a snail going up a tree carrying a sack of potatoes.

DIITO!

OP - Check your tire pressure.

My hybrid hate the 10% ethanol gasoline, and also not the best on the highway.

If driven 70% in the city on regular 100% gasoline, I get 40 mpg.

Would help if you mentioned your average highway speeds. When I was trying to figure out which model to buy I rented an eco awd and a hybrid on Turo for a day each. My observed eco highway mileage was so close to the hybrid mileage that I chose to go with an ecoboost awd since 90%+ of my driving is pure highway. I think the astronomically high hybrid MPG you're seeing is from people who probably do 90%+ city driving which is where a hybrid powertrain shines.

OP - I am not sure of the calendar time range your 3k miles covers, but the hybrid can be fairly heavily affected by heater and AC use. The heater is very traditional, a heater core which depends on hot coolant to warm the cabin. When there's demand for heat you're going to have the 2.5 running, and when it's running, you certainly won't get as good as mpg as when it can operate more often on battery.

@Shay did a nice video about how the AC works:

28ish with 50/50 mix highway/city. I get just under 34 with pure highway driving in warmish weather. AWD with tow and the higher final drive ratio that goes with it.

I really doubt the majority of the forum is lying.
