Why You Should Never Lock Key in Truck And Rely On Keypad for Entry

I can't take it any longer.......Cellular (modem to modem) is not Internet. The Ford Pass app uses your phone's cellular modem to connect to Ford's modem and Ford's modem connects to your vehicle's modem. It has nothing to do with the Internet, wifi, AOL etc!

Yeah but it still needs an internet connection to work.........

So I rarely do this, just occasionally when duck hunting and it's best not to have a fob in my pocket. Have never had a problem on my f150 but I did this on the Mav Lariat and the factory Keypad would simply not work at all. Finally had to call my son to Uber a key up. After getting in, I randomly tried the steps to fix the intelligent access entry lock and unlock feature and voila the keypad worked again. No idea why intelligent access would fix the keypad but it did. Isn't intelligent access the handle sensor? So thinking as I post, duh, the handle sensor needs to work in conjunction with the keypad.

Regardless, expensive lesson. Will never lock key in the truck and rely on Keypad.

My F150 don't have Intelligent Access so I'll still do it on that truck

I never saw the point of the door lock keypads until I bought my Maverick. I go for extended rides on my bike when I can and suddenly find it very useful. I have had the same concerns when I ride my bike, but I have the app on my phone as a backup.

To avoid that as much as possible, don't use Bluetooth with your phone, since that is how they download all the phone numbers and other information from your phone. Only use Apple Carplay and Android auto, the latter of which is spyware too, to reduce what the manufacture can sell to the data mining partners they deal with.

FYI, Android auto and carplay still use Bluetooth even when plugged in with a cable.

And what do you think is in between the modems? It's not an analog phone wire anymore.

Even VOICE and text messages on the cellphone network get converted into digital packets of information that go across internet to the destination.....

Now you may be ranting about "World Wide Web" which is different than internet but uses internet to transmit pictures, text, data, videos.....

I always have had problems with the "intelligent access" system. Sometimes locks upon exiting vehicle without using FOB or Keypad. Sometimes leave keys in car and locks without command resulting in being locked out. Also, approaching locked vehicle, vehicle won't automatically unlock with key fob in hand. Very temperamental, '22 Maverick Lariat 2.0 AWD 4K 26,000 miles.

I used to do that exact thing with my 19 F150 with intelligent access. Between the keypad and the app. I never had an issue. It’s why I paid the $195 for the keypad on my Lariat. Always like having a Ford keypad.

What IP addresses are used when remote starting your vehicle via Ford Pass?

Never had a key pad fail in several Fords.
Did have one hidakey box rust away though, only thing left was the magnet. getting harder to find a place to stick them with all the plastic these days.

Best advice if you don't want to use the keypad? When I sold Fords for so many years, and the keypad wasn't on as many vehicles as it is today, I had customers want a flat non-chip key that they kept in their wallet/purse. Won't start the car but will get them in. Worked everytime and it was flat so it fit in a wallet. I even did this for each of my early demos from 98-2010 (cars I had till 2016 when we sold the dealership to a local auto group, and I had to give my demo back, all had the keypad by then).

Intelligent Access requires that you touch the handle opening (unlock) or the ridges on top of the handle (lock) for it to activate. Your post sounds like you expect it to unlock as you approach, I know some vehicles do this, but not the Maverick.

I've had the same problem with my convertible when the top is down.

Alternate scenario, I had a weird issue a few months back, the wife and I were leaving a store, I tried to remote start my truck, the little light on the keyfob was blinking red indicating that it didnt start, tried again, same issue, ended up trying four times total on the walk from the store to the truck.

When I get to the truck it was started but now would not unlock, tried the keyfob several times, wouldn't unlock. Tried using the key in the door and it wouldn't unlock, tried again in the door and pulling the handle thinking maybe it was stuck, wouldnt unlock. I had forgotten my phone at home so I couldn't try that. Finally I tried the keypad and it unlocked right away with no issues.

It was a really weird glitch but I am glad for the keypad, the one included option I thought I would never use. It's saved me at least twice now.

Question, was your keypad factory installed or an option you had the dealer add? That could be the difference.
