So I rarely do this, just occasionally when duck hunting and it's best not to have a fob in my pocket. Have never had a problem on my f150 but I did this on the Mav Lariat and the factory Keypad would simply not work at all. Finally had to call my son to Uber a key up. After getting in, I randomly tried the steps to fix the intelligent access entry lock and unlock feature and voila the keypad worked again. No idea why intelligent access would fix the keypad but it did. Isn't intelligent access the handle sensor? So thinking as I post, duh, the handle sensor needs to work in conjunction with the keypad.

Regardless, expensive lesson. Will never lock key in the truck and rely on Keypad.

My F150 don't have Intelligent Access so I'll still do it on that truck

I think this only is a Lariat issue.

Must be a one off. I have not had my 24 Lariat Hybrid that long but the dealer installed keypad seems to be working fine. In almost 20 years of ownership the keypad has always worked. on our 2004 Ford Excursion.

Sure, Its worked fine for over a year but failed when I was up north, duck hunting. There is no cell service and my phone was in truck. I Ubered a key 200 plus miles. Used my buddy's phone after driving to get cell service

My mistake for trusting the keypad but my F150 without intelligent access has never failed in over 12 yrs

I don't believe Intelligent Access has anything to do with the Door Keypad.

Also, with the key INSIDE the truck, Intelligent Access will not work. The truck disables it, otherwise a carjacker could just open your door with you inside.

Seems like a fluke. Was the Keypad lighting up when pressing the buttons? Did you try pressing the last 2 at the same time to lock the truck, then try unlocking?

Thats what I thought but the keypad would not work until I reset Intelligent Access. Somehow it must be tied together. Too much of a coincidence both would go.

The keypad is great when it works. My kids can go out to the truck and get stuff without needing key, I (used) to be able to lock my key in there when going on the water. Very handy.

Will keep using it on my F150 but until I figure out how or why it failed and its ties to intelligent access, not using it on Mav to lock the key inside. My kids can still use it though

Just sharing - 4 or 5 times I've exited the Hybrid XLT tossing the key in the passenger seat to open door, step out and pick up my newspaper - as I close the door to hear the door lock click. Knowing this happens I sometimes leave the door not completely closed...still locks though. I test the keypad at least once a month to make sure it works and that I remember the code...also always make sure the Maverick OWNERS' MANUAL is in the glove box. Others on this site have had the same locked out issue.

maybe the old magnetic metal key box you plunk your key into and then attach to some underside metal would suffice next time...

I thought the app used bluetooth? We dont have cell service and ours works.
Bluetooth is only for close range communication, I don't know if Fordpass uses it at all for vehicle controls. Maybe it does? As far as I know Fordpass and the vehicle require an internet connection for the app to function. Don't know, I stopped using it within weeks of getting the truck, it's spyware.
