Does your Hybrid Maverick engine revs up real high on down hill rides!?

My 2023 Hybrid's engine makes loud sound (high RPM) when driving on down hill roads!! The charging Dial drops into the middle of the Green charging Zone but the ICE engine sounds like revving up very high! I shifted the car from Drive to Neutral but the revving sound did not go away!
I am not sure if this is related to any of the recalls!!

The behavior sounds like a stuck fuel gauge that pushed the engine into high RPM. I am going to put a OBD reader on the car to see if there are any errors. Will report it under this heading, but would love to know if this has happens to any other Hybrid Maverick.

Thanks.

You sure it’s not the regen braking you are hearing? The ICE shouldn’t be running on downhill grades.

Thank god for the revving. It's definitely a feature. I've been on switchbacks and long mountain downhills with steep grades. You need every bit of engine braking. It's just spinning off the extra voltage and keeping the car in control. Great feature. Page 166.

You could also notice that your engine
continues to run instead of shutting off
during extended downhill driving. The
engine stays on during this engine braking
but is not using any fuel.

This is normal, when the battery reaches maximum charge from regenerative braking the ICE will engine brake when going down hill. You can force it to do so on long hills by hitting the L button.

How can I confirm it's the Regen??! Is there a way to turn-off Regen?

Regen is a good thing, a very good thing. It helps the hybrid system to significantly boost efficiency and reduce long term maintenance costs. Brakes on EVs and hybrids last basically forever, forever by car terms at least, because these vehicles use Regen to slow down. That drastically reduces the strain on physical components.

It happens to me every time in L, even on a slight downhill grade. It's a really high rev and I doubt that it's normal. I get the regen function but it sounds excessive. The service department agrees but of course they couldn't duplicate it.

It's normal, if the HV battery has been charged as fully as the computer will allow. IIRC, it's revving with the engine OFF, so it basically becomes an air compressor, causing drag.

You can use Slippery mode to reduce the amount of regen on downhill roads. You can also just gently press the go pedal to decrease regen (and increase coasting), w/o it actually turning on the electric or gas motors. If you use the EV Coach screen as a guide, it will show you how much you're reducing the regen (Green bar), or if you press the go pedal too much, it will show if you're actually running the electric motor (Blue bar/Electric).

I understand it from this and other threads, but I will admit it is a pretty high rev and it still freaks me out a bit. I'm working on just trusting the Ford engineers know what they're doing...

The only time that I have noticed something similar was while exiting a parking structure . I know what the brake rev deals like and this was different. It was scary as I had to apply extra braking. It felt like the truck was trying too jump out from under me.

I really do not think it’s a good idea to put it in neutral going down hills.

The Ford engineers must be alchemists. "Laws of physics? We don't need no stinking laws of physics!"
