So I'm at discount tire getting a tire repaired as I picked up a screw on my way home from work last night. The tire tech I spoke with said I'm going to need new tires soon.

I have less than 13k miles on these tires, has anyone else had to replace their tires before 15k miles?

OEM tires always have less tread. The exact same tire from a tire shop will almost always last a lot longer.

I heard the same.
But mine look pretty good.
I think the tread depth was small from the factory or something. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have over 20k on my factory Pirellis and they look great. I think they will go another 30k. I do rotate them at every 5k Oil Change.

They only start with 8/32. 15K seems a little low.
The same PROCONTACT TX are on many Escapes as well..... they usually seem to last until about 20K for most people.

I'm not expecting them to last more than 20K on the Maverick either.

I find the wet traction on the factory XLT Hybrid Continentals to be poor. On the plus side, I do not drive too much so I will keep them on and change them to something a little better when necessary.

34k on the Conti's and still over 5/32" on them. Almost all highway miles. I generally don't use the Mav in snow or ice, and I don't recommend these tires for those conditions.

Rotated Lariat tires at 4k miles, all of them look new.
(I was rotating Miata tires so why not?)

I know, its not like I drive like a maniac or anything, most commute to work and back every day, a trip to Dallas which is three hours away, and then this road trip last week. 15k seems way too low.

I’m at 24k with the OEM continentals. So far, tread wear is decent with plenty of tread left ( approx 6/32 on all). I’m light on the accelerator and drive about 80/20 split highway/back roads. They are fine but will replace with another brand with better traction in the wet.

What brand/model? Even the worst quality tire should go 15K in normal driving.

My OEM Falken Wildpeak's look terrific @20K. I rotate every 5-6K at oil change timing.

Did you ask the tire tech what the tread depth measured in multiple spots? You can buy a cheap depth gauge and check yourself also. But to keep it simple - yes, the stock tires are cheap. The only real good ones being offered are the Wildpeaks and even those are a cheaper, lower tread depth version than the consumer ones. Sounds like you either got a really bad set or your tire tech is trying to meet a quota. The later seems more likely.
