My truck just hit 20,000 miles and I decided to swap the air filter per the manual.
I ordered an OEM filter and verified it is in fact the same as the one that was in the truck already however, after I was done I noticed that if you look at the back of the air filter housing you can actually see the filter - is that normal or I did something wrong?
The 2 tabs in the back are properly inserted and the 2 front clips are secured.
Can the people with Hybrid look at theirs and let me know if they see the same thing? (see photos attached)

Thank you!

Btw. My 2022 hybrid manual doesn’t call for an engine air filter replacement until 30k miles. I suspect yours is the same.

It was fairly dirty actually but nothing too crazy that required immediate replacement.
And Rod you are correct the Cabin is every 20,000, engine 30,000 I just checked - oh well it was only $20.
Does yours look the same when looking at it? seems kinda weird to have a gap and see the filter..

I changed mine and the new filter was a little difficult to properly seat as it was a tight fit (used OEM) and had to drop straight in with pressure. I cannot look at mine now but do not think I can see the orange. This is a very common filter for lots of fords. It was much easier if "hose clamp" was loosened so cover could be moved out of way when accessing filter.

Hard to see in your photo due to the angle of it but I can see the orange , there's like ridges on the bottom edge, its like the cover doesn't go all the way but I guess that's just how its designed, would have thought it would be %100 covered all around..

I would think as long as it is making a tight seal seeing a little of the side of the gasket is not an issue.

I have not touched my air filter and it DOES show the orange through tiny gaps. Just like in your picture.

Hey all, yes this is normal. It is the rubber seal. When you close and. Lock the filter box In place, it seals it tight. I had a civic and a Chrysler that were the same.

I'm pretty confident that we have now established that seeing the filter siding is normal. This topic could probably be linked to whenever anyone in the future has the same question. 👍

TC, how was your old filter looking after the 20k miles?

Has anyone replaced their Hybrid OEM engine air filter with one from K&N or S&B? I looked on both websites and couldn't find the exact replacement part #. They showed parts for EcoBoost, and it was a full cold air intake replacement. Thanks
