I like my '22 Maverick Hybrid and am aware that only a very small number of the vehicles produced will ever experience a failure and fire due to it. I'll look more closely into the class action lawsuit, but I am inclined not to join the lawsuit at this time. That may change in time depending on what Ford announces in regard to a "fix" for the issue. Personally, I'm betting on the company offering a free extended warranty for the engine, something that will not be much of a resolution for those that have purchased extended warranty plans already.

Ford just went from a heroic, visionary, consumer-friendly auto manufacturer to a customer's worst nightmare. We all know about the 1st recall regarding the potential of an engine fire in the hybrid models and Ford's pathetic solution that did nothing except pat their buyers on the back and say, "See, all fixed." "Why don't you just calm down and go back to sleep". The 2nd recall is worded in much more serious language indicating that "this time" Ford will really fix it . . . just as soon as the non-existent parts arrive! By Ford's own admission, the engines have a block breach problem, meaning the block will break open spilling gasoline and oil everywhere. The ONLY fix is a new engine! Seems Ford has not wanted to pay the band and thus the class action lawsuit. What a freaking PR problem Ford now has in their lap! Did they learn nothing from the Pinto fiasco?
This article spells out the class action lawsuit:

This article gives you the same information but also includes a form to fill out if you want to join the lawsuit.

The number of Ford vehicles affected by this is very, very small. Hyundai and Kia are the latest automakers announcing fire risk recalls this morning, and have just announced a huge fire risk recall of 3.4 million vehicles dating back as far as 2010, in response to the NHTSA investigating 3100 under-hood fires. That's most of their vehicles built since 2010 that should now always be left outdoors. Its also interesting to note that the approved fix does not fix the problem, and only hides the symptom.

There is a fix . . . run a test and replace those engines that fail. An extended warranty will not give me peace of mind while driving with my kid in the back seat.
I thought about a test, too. But what test would that be? Engine oil analysis? There are a lot of variables to confound such a test. What else can be tested? Could they open up the engine and look at the suspect parts?

I'd be extremely satisfied getting an extended warranty for free, especially considering this issue won't impact basically any of us.
I agree, but I’d want to see explicit fire damage coverage, too.

These trucks may have a diminition of value problem if/when you decide to sell it. Who wants to buy my ticking time bomb, even if the odds are minuscule?

The replies to this post are, as usual generating more "heat" than "light". :(
To add some light... The "test" of the oil would show traces of "metal" filings from the crankshaft. The "physical inspection" would show any "cracks".. ;)

Do the 2024 hybrid Mavericks have this problem?
No 24's have any problems yet. None were built. Later 23's come with changes from the factory to avoid this.

So if I understand the article correctly, the cause of a fire is a "block breach" or in layman's term your Maverick either has a cracked engine block or a hole in the engine block. The failure must be in the casting process. If it was going to throw a rod through the block you'd think you'd hear that coming. It also includes model year 2023.
Hmm... What to do. I'm thinking the stateside 2.5's were a better build than the Mexican one. Too bad. Not the 1st engine problem with the Chihuahua plant.

I guess I'll see what develops with the lawsuit. As others have stated the trial attorneys are the clear winners. I suppose it makes a lawyers carreer with a multi million dollar payout and from there its onwards and upwards to elected office.

Ford should be held accountable for a poor build but honestly if they'd just catch it at stage one with quality control they'd save us and themselves a lot of grief. I wonder why the block break happens anyway?

anyone's maverick catch on fire here?
Reported so far by members (as far as I could find): two Ecoboost (not in the recall) and one hybrid that probbly doesn't fall under recall because the truck was parked and cold overnight according to the OP.
