Sadly, only the lawyers will make out on the class action suit. Owners will get like $100 or a certificate for so much off a new vehicle & warranty extension for that specific failure for maybe 10/100. And increase mfg costs, raising prices.

Ford just went from a heroic, visionary, consumer-friendly auto manufacturer to a customer's worst nightmare. We all know about the 1st recall regarding the potential of an engine fire in the hybrid models and Ford's pathetic solution that did nothing except pat their buyers on the back and say, "See, all fixed." "Why don't you just calm down and go back to sleep". The 2nd recall is worded in much more serious language indicating that "this time" Ford will really fix it . . . just as soon as the non-existent parts arrive! By Ford's own admission, the engines have a block breach problem, meaning the block will break open spilling gasoline and oil everywhere. The ONLY fix is a new engine! Seems Ford has not wanted to pay the band and thus the class action lawsuit. What a freaking PR problem Ford now has in their lap! Did they learn nothing from the Pinto fiasco?

First new vehicle my wife and I bought when kids started to appear was a 1990 Pontiac Transport minivan, the one that looked like a dustbuster. Anyway, at about 30,000 miles, it was determined that the engine was faulty, due to piston slap, if I remember right, and GM put a brand new engine into it at no cost to me.

It seems as though a simple oil analyse is all a dealership would need to do to determine which of the hybrid engines had this defect. About 300 engines are impacted by this from what I read. The oil analysis is what someone else was saying on the forums.
Exactly 👍 They could also section the oil filter on suspect vehicles that had a questionable oil analysis result. This could back up the oil test results.

Class action lawsuits have several items that are required to be effective to the actual victims. That's the reason most people don't bother with them. At best Ford provides a token payout to the suing lawyers and provides an extended warrantee to those affected (which they are already doing). Worst case, the case gets tossed because too few people are actually legally harmed to justify class certification.

Potential of harm does not equal harm especially since Ford is working on a permanent fix and the chronology of the investigation shows that, given the small numbers, Ford simply didn't have enough evidence to pin-point the issue.

For those that are saying they want to sell their trucks because they dont feel their family is safe.....My question to you is. When you sell it to another family for probably above MSRP and while you are counting your money and happy that your family is now safe.......what about the family that you just sold the truck to?

Damn.... it's worse than I thought. I've called my dealer several times about my '23 Hybrid and got "when they tell us we'll call you". I thought that the suggestion "buy a fire extinguisher just in case" was particularly useful. The second article says "2022 Maverick hybrids". Is the 2023 model year not included?

The law suit makes it sound like the fix requires tearing down the engine to find out if it's a problem or not. I doubt Ford is going to want to do that for 125k+ vehicles (remember that number is just the ones sold in the US, not Canada and south America) unless they are forced to.
That worked well for the Pinto..............

The Corsair costs around $40K. Where does inexpensive end and the other thing start??
Gotta pay for litigation adding to cost of all vehicles.

This thread is missing critical information on this subject, mainly;

Can anyone cite a source saying how many Hybrid engine fires have resulted from engine failures?

Can anyone post the FSA# for the most recent recall?

Calm down.
If you are that concerned about a very rare possibility of fire, remove the shield from under the engine.
We have been driving cars without under engine shields for decades. The shield saves maybe a fraction of gas (MPG).
My dealer completely removed mine.
Free of charge.

Yes, class actions do not usually amount to much... but when they do...
It's certainly better than nothing.

And blaming consumers for taking action against FORD? How incredibly stupid. Are you really naïve enough to think FORD cares about it's customers? They don't even care about their workforce. Jim said paying workers more would make the company unsustainable... He said that. In public.

The snooty nosed "I have not had a problem yet" on this forum is something special. Good for you. I hope you never do. For those that already have (failure, not fires thankfully), that is evidence enough for some people that the POTENTIAL issue is a big one and nothing to turn your back on.

Only an asshole would blame them for wanting peace of mind and reliability. And the remark about selling to another family? What else should they do? Scrap it? Accept a $30K+ loss? Should FORD buy it back? It's not their responsibility to do the research for that potential buyer. They are living on hopes and dreams just like you are currently, and you "don't have any issues yet" so your consumer advice is to keep buying... ;)
Most people trade in anyways. Good luck!

You don't know that and I'm not willing to roll the dice on my family's safety. I'd rather have the problem fixed correctly before I need to go down the "compensation" rabbit hole.
Get a Yugo. They never have engine problems.

I agree I haven’t had issues and if it happens, I’ll wait till that happens., not only that the attorneys want you to sign some kind of commitment. Never heard that before. My XLT @ 12k miles is doing fine, got mines 10/22
