Here is my story. Bought a 23 Maverick hybrid XLT.
Waited 189 days. So happy to receive it. Enjoyed it for 3 months.
Then it broke down. Waited 2 months for parts. Sounds like it was a big job to fix it. Still in shop. Traded it in at a Honda dealership for a Honda civic, got all my money back and they took it while still in shop.
Didn't know if I could go through that again.
Don't think it was meant to be. Maybe a few years down the road I'll try again.

I feel your pain. I've had a similar issue with a 2014 Volt when the dealers stopped being able to get parts. A brand new Maverick? That makes no sense....though it reminds me I have a recall notice because my Mav may catch fire and explode, but dealer tells me that Ford has not notified them of the fix yet. I got the Mav because Honda never sold the Ridgeline Hybrid I wanted. Now they may- thanks to the Maverick.

Enjoy the Civic! I have been thinking about a Prius Prime myself....

I'd probably do the same.

It would be helpful for us to know what the issue was, how Ford handled it, etc. Seems knee jerk to me, but what do I know??

Knee jerk?

I know in my case, Ford's lackluster support for the vehicle caused me to lose confidence. Parts were very hard to get and the service staff not familiar with the vehicle. There seemed to be a disdain for the Maverick at several dealerships.

I can certainly empathize with the OP and clearly see the logic in his decision. It is very frustrating to get a new vehicle, in his case, not the first model year, experience a breakdown, and see dumbfounded service staff scratching their heads.

What was the big job?
In 2008 I had to wait 2 months for a drive axle hanger bearing for my chexy. That was due to lack of parts aswell. Its everywhere, not just a Ford thing.

Enjoy the Civic. It'll run circles around any Ford product when it comes to reliability.
Not necessarily so. I was a Honda driver for 23 years and jumped ship for Ford when the Maverick came along. This was one of those "when Hell freezes over" moments because I never thought I'd ever buy a Ford product for myself (although I bought two Ford F150's for my husband - I wasn't the driver, so it doesn't count.) Why the change?

I bought a new 2014 Honda Accord LX MT. It was a great car...until it wasn't. Went to check oil one day and found NO OIL on dipstick. Added two quarts and took it to my local mechanic to be looked at and topped off. Explained situation to him and he knew exactly what was going on and said for that particular year and engine, there was a slow but consistent oil leak/burn through the engine pistons. Asked about repair costs and he said for an 8 year-old vehicle it just wasn't worth it, and if I intended to keep the car I needed to travel with oil and check oil levels every week or so. Nursed the vehicle along until my Maverick arrived exactly 16 weeks after ordering, and then sold it for a few thousand less than I paid for it. I suppose I should mention that I sold my Honda with only 84K miles on it. Booo! All of my other Hondas hit the 200-300K no problem, except for my Honda Element, which I sold with 90K miles on it. That one was a PITA as well with constant brake issues.

I'm done with Honda.

My son did just the opposite. Traded a 2018 Honda Civic for a new 2022 Mav XLT with FX4 and AWD. Been very happy with the truck. The engine blew up in his Civic and through a rod. After the engine replacement he traded for the Mav.

All cars have issues. Honda has certainly had their fair share. The recent turbo engines have had oil consumption issues. The sixth gen Accords (I still own one) were known for transmissions issues. I had to have mine repaired.
