I want a Maverick and I know it's not a luxury car but the interior looks far cheaper in quality than my 2016 VW Golf. . I can live with the more budget materials but I am a bit concerned about Ford quality
You own a VW, you're not concerned with quality or reliability.
Yes I currently own one and have had many over the years.

What tax benefits do you get?
Some states you only pay sales tax on the difference between the trade and what you pay.
For us trading in saved $1200 in sales tax. I was shocked when the dealer match CarMax's offer and didn't use the tax savings to lower their offer.

I agree on material choices. Considering another Ford in my future, and have started looking at Explorers for shits and giggles. What's with the beige/tan/light interiors? That would stay clean for 30 seconds in real life usage. Give me a dark(er) interior ANY DAY, or I'm going to have to spend a small fortune in seat covers.

Anyone on this forum own an Explorer? What did you think of it?
Bought a a three yr old 2016 Explorer XLT in late 2018 with the electonics upgrades, larger wheels and tow package. Non-turbo 3.5 L six. Other than averaging about 20 MPG, and somewhat poor visibility, absolutely love it. It handles like a go cart, is a total Swiss Army knife of a vehicle with the flat fold seats, which we have used frequently in a move, and it makes a great cross country highway cruiser. It’s got a long way to go before I’ll be ready to get rid of it, but I would seriously consider another one - as long as it has some kind of decent engine. I’m not a fan of lawn mower motors with several turbos.

sorry y’all, ill take a budget kia over a budget ford, any day of the week.
Okay I won't argue that there are plenty of vehicles that make better daily drivers than a Maverick so I'm curious why you bought a Maverick in the first place? I got mine because I wanted a low cost utility vehicle with an open bed and AWD. In which case, the Maverick is the obvious (and really the only) choice.

Before you get all over me about being a hater, relax, I loved my Maverick… mostly. I thought I’d post a last post for those who want to know how their trucks will hold value, and why I made the move for any who care.
First things first youll be happy to know that if you take care of your maverick itll hold value (for the first term of depreciation at least) very well. For reference I had a:
22’ xlt
Eco awd
Tow package
Katzkin interior

Normally you cant flip a 2 year old high milage car for positive equity, but the Maverick is incredibly popular and still somewhat supply constrained… its also gone through some hefty price increases in 2 years. hence the following

(all these numbers will be canadian… sorry)
I paid 31k sticker price in may 2022. 2 years and 60000km later (60000km is the factory warranty limit in canada) they gave me 29000. In the private market my truck is selling for low 30s it seems.

reasons for the trade:
The tldr is i wanted to get my wife a new car. (2024 redesigned kia sorento) i was going to trade in her old car (2020 sorento). However the mav was worth a bit more (4000 i think… same amount of positive equity but higher tax savings) and the more i thought about it… despite the mav being 2 years newer and how much i did like that little thing… kia is just so much better at designing interiors than ford is that my wife’s old car is just plain nicer to drive around as a commuter than the maverick. Dont get me wrong. I think the maverick is the best lower budget interior ford makes. But lets be honest… despite having made vehicles for 100 years… ford has not figured out the interior fit and finish thing. Its the material choices, styling and placement of the important dash items, the cost of ‘luxury’ items that many other cars come standard with or at least in a mid trim (leather and heating packages), and the friggin infotainment system. Do not get me started on ford sych system or whatever they call that garbage lol anyways. I dont wanna hate on the maverick. Ive landed on this: i loved having the maverick. It was a well designed, super fun little trucklette that can do many things reasonably well. However… i did not enjoy having it a ford. And the ford stuff made it less good at what we all do with most of our cars 99% of the time. Which is driving on regular roads at regular speeds with little or nothing in the truck bed. If thats all im doing, sorry y’all, ill take a budget kia over a budget ford, any day of the week.
who asked you this?

Yes I know they have had issues but the interior on the Maverick makes the VW look like an S-Class. I think most of the major problems with VW like electrical were more in the past. Mine is on the MQB platform. I cannot say I speak for everyone but I haven't had any issues with mine other than a leaking sunroof that was fixed under warranty as for what I'm concerned with you would have no idea

I always find the conversation on a topic like this a bit crazy.

For all those who tell OP the choice is wrong or feel the need to correct aspects of the choice, you realize that's stems from weird primal instinct to make the tribe conform right? Some stranger saying they don't like they same thing you do and all of a sudden you need to assert it's wrong. We don't all have to like the same thing or even make decisions based on the same values. It doesn't invalidate your/my choice to keep the vehicle 🤷‍♂️. The share was to inform us all about our vehicles retaining value.

Second part is going to make me seem like a hypocrite to what I just said. It's not a criticism but rather wondering if those in this camp can help me understand a different point of view. OPs sentiment seemed to revolve a lot around the interior. To me interiors all suck the option combos, info systems, trim, materials, all suck, across all brands. I always based my decisions as much as possible on the functionality / reliability / value of the vehicles use. If I'm paying $1 or $3000 for anything internal, I want exactly what I choose aftermarket, not the manufactures consolation choice.

Interior is probably 10% of my ownership choice. What would the rest of you say is the percentage interior weighs into your choice?

I drove a 2020 Platinum for a couple of days (dealer loaner), back when it was new. I like the Explorer a lot, and loved driving that one. Smooth, quiet, and the 3.0L engine was powerful and good. Not bad mileage, if I stayed off the gas pedal a bit. Still like the styling of it as well. Way outta my budget though. I do agree with the light color interiors btw, they don't wear well over a short period of time.

I somewhat agree with your first paragraph. You may think your brother is a knucklehead, But let others attack him and you come to his rescue. It's just human nature.

Regarding the interior: My criteria is no garish colors, comfortable seats (power) and memory position. My Lariat lux meets the first two but not the last. I still have contort myself into the cabin and adjust the seat back and lower it after my wife has driven the truck.

Exactly right. It's also confirmation bias. You don't want to hear somebody leave the tribe and tell you you're religion is wrong so you stone them. Guy started his own thread. It's not like you jumped on another one to say it and then people still give him crap. I do like a nicer interior I got to be honest. I sat in one maverick and I think it's a cool and funky interior but the material quality is a little bit fisher price for my taste but I guess I had to adjust what I am looking for in a vehicle.

I’m happy for your decision, because it is yours alone. I’ve been offered well over what I paid for my Maverick, but it is mine “‘til death do us apart”.
I know that is not the best economical decision, but that’s how I roll.

LOL - I wondered if anyone else noticed that.

To OP: Ask me about my Kia's defective airbag system they wouldn't fix. Or my friend's Kia that got stolen by kids using a TikTok vid with easy-peasy instructions.
My son's mother-in-law's KIA was stolen twice, even after the dealer told her they had fixed the "easy steal" glitch.

I feel the pain on the seat position. I'm 6'6" 230lbs enjoy a reckline positin and my wife is 5'7" and enjoys to sit more upright. I always curse myself when I step into a vehicle that she just drove, "why do I not recognize the seat position prior to getting in 🤦‍♂️".
