Decided to take a last minute trip a few hundred miles down the road and didn't even get to our destination before the engine light came on. Only have 860 mi and 2 months with the vehicle. I know I'll get bashed for saying this but...t's my first domestic vehicle will probably be my last. If I can't even make it to 1000 mi before issues arise, it doesn't leave me with much confidence that it'll last long term. It's a shame cuz we've really enjoyed the vehicle up until this point

That is disappointing. Can I ask what was the issue is and if your still driving it? Any information from your display or the Ford app?
Any new vehicle could have this problem and its not reassuring to be driving the one that does. Ford Motor may be based in the United States but the Maverick in reality is an import.

Since I have 500+ miles on mine I'm anxious to know what you are experiencing.

The Ford app has the following:
" the engine control system has detected air leak into engine that should not be present. When this condition is present can occur the engine start stop feature if equipped disabling.". Code reader has P2282, air leak between throttle body and intake valves. Of course! And out of town. And getting an appointment is impossible in the area I'm in especially over a holiday weekend. My concern is do I drive it? Or not?

Yep, every single domestic car breaks down before 1,000 miles and there has never been a Toyota with an issue.

And of course I'm sure you followed the engine break-in guide in the owner's manual.
Ha ha flame away..I love it. While I shouldn't even respond to the obvious.. Yes I have owned many vehicles and follow the break in instructions... But keep the sarcasm coming

No flame just pointing out it is childish to say you'll never order another domestic or again because of one problem. I've owned many domestic and foreign cars over 50 years and most never had an issue but a few, foreign and domestic, have had issues.

Keep it coming... I'm a big boy I can handle it. Have owned too many vehicles, all foreign and NEVER had one fail on a trip or need service this early. Hey the up side is they WILL fix it and then they can buy it from me or I'll sell on the open market.

Search this site for P2282. Might get answers I am going to see what I can find!
EDIT TO ADD: FOUND THIS:
got the same service warning today with 600 miles on the clock. I called into the Ford dealership about 20 mins after the service light came on. The guy out front said that the fuel cap was possibly open, I reminded him that the Maverick doesn't have a fuel cap. After, he told me that I was covered by warranty and not to worry about whether I should drive the truck or not. Just carry on and make an appointment with the service department. I will call them on Monday and update this thread with the response I get from the dealership.
EDIT TO ADD: FOUND possibly could be air leak detected if oil dip stick is not properly seated or gas filler cap is not closed good and leaking or you filled up with gas with engine running? One reports he is driving and getting less mpg? I don't know what else....

It shakes the confidence a bit when you have to tell them that. It'd be nice if they were on page one with you.

Your reply was a bit choppy but vacuum leaks I don't think are disastrous. Emissions may suffer, idle may be rough and it may stall or you may not notice anything at all. It may clear itself too.

I'm not a mechanic but if everything else is fine I'd drive it and then make plans when I got back home.

Just a long shot here.. maybe open the hood and see if there’s anything obvious and wiggle around the air intake components and wiring. It could be a loose hose clamp or electrical connection. Then just maybe you had some rodents chew into something.. it’s worth a look.. just trying to help..

I’m just saying if it was me, do a thorough under hood examination and if there’s nothing obvious then keep driving unless you start to get diminishing engine performance.

My thoughts are you probably have a MAF sensor or exhaust O2 sensor premature failure. Make sure you check the O2 sensor wire while it’s cold. With engine running you spray carburetor cleaner on the air intake joints and if the engine idle rises then that’s your problem area. At least that’s my experience..

This has been seen a few times by people on this site. In all cases no issue was found. I was the one who reported it after 600 miles. My warning appeared after I pumped my first tank of gas, so maybe the flap didn’t seal correctly? Others were told to check the oil cap and dip stick. My truck was at the dealers service department for a week but they found nothing at all. Initially my MPG was down about 5 to 10 but it is back to normal after I got it back. Having an issue this early has me considering taking out an ESP.
