Hey all! I ordered my Maverick in September of 2022. It is a 2023 Maverick XLT 2.0 AWD w/ 4k tow and Co-Pilot 360. I very excitedly picked my Maverick up from the ford dealership about two weeks ago. It was love at first sight. I loved it more than I could've imagined. In all honesty, once I picked up I was going to immediately sell it for a nice profit, but Once i drove it back home to hopkinsville, ky (About an hour and a half away from the dealership I bought it from) and figured out that a car seat would actually fit in the back with room in the front for a normal sized person, I decided to keep it and make it my own.

The issues starred to arise about 4 days after I brought it home. I noticed that there was a rhythmic squeaking/ squealing noise coming from the front wheels. At first i just assumed it was from the breaks being wet from rain and it all being brand new (This is the first Brand New car I have ever owned). Unfortunately, this problem very quickly escalated and the squeaking noise very quickly turned into a harsh grinding under breaking at low speeds, below 15 MPH. I immediately took this to my local dealer here in Hopkinsville. I dropped it off and by the afternoon they called me and informed me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my vehicle. When I went to pick up the Truck the service advisor proceeded to tell me that if I continue to experience issues then I should go back to the dealer I bought it from. This was very confusing to me since the Maverick is a Ford truck, covered by a Ford factory warranty and I was trying to get it serviced at a Ford Dealership. I continued to drive the truck for another 5 days and the grinding proceeded to get worse and worse. I returned to my local Ford dealership and told the to please fix my new Ford truck, at this point it ad around 300 miles on it. They took it that day and got a tech working on it. about 4 hours later they called and let me know that the truck had been fixed! When I picked it up they told me that the lubed the caliper pins and adjusted the brake springs..... This was confusing to me because the Maverick has 4 disks brakes and of all my years of working on vehicles I have never once seen Brake springs on disk brakes.... Only on drum systems. about 30 minutes after leaving the lot with my "fixed" truck the noise returned....

Now, I had been in contact with the dealership that I bought the vehicle from in Bowling Green, KY about the issues from the onset, they instantly offered to take a look at the vehicle by I decided to take it to my local Ford dealer in hopkinsville because its 5 minutes from my house and I have a wife and 3 week old son at home so its just easier on all of us to stay closer. After two failed "Attempts" from my local dealership I decided to suck it up and take the truck back to Bowling Green. while on the way back to Bowling Green I noticed that while braking at highway speeds between 70-40MPH my steering wheel would shake so violently that I had to white knuckle the steering wheel to keep the vehicle straight. Once I arrived they immediately took my truck back and promised they'd get to the bottom of it. About 5 hours later they called me to let me know that after talking to Ford corporate techs and extensive digging they discover that I actually had a blown wheel bearing/hub assembly on my front passenger side wheel. They informed me that it would take 2-3 days to get the part in a install it. That was on Monday and they called me Thursday to tell me the truck was fixed and the noise seemed to be gone, but they cautioned me to drive the truck and listen just to make sure. So my wife and I packed up her car with our now 4 week old son we drove the hour and a half back to bowling green. After picking up the truck , 5 minutes before they closed, I drove down the road about two miles and wouldn't ya know it, that damn sound came back and the grinding returned. I returned the truck to the Dealership and put the keys in the night deposit box and immediately called Ford Corporate to tell them what was going on and how they were going to fix this.

I'm now back home in Hopkinsville, KY and my truck is still in Bowling Green, still broke. My wife and I are down to one vehicle and are both returning to our jobs soon. No loner car and ford corporate has notified me that they can possibly get me a rental car but I'll more than likely have to pay out of pocket and they'll reimburse me. This has clearly now become a safety issue since a wheel hub has already had to be replaced. My Maverick now has 667 miles on it. This will now be the 4th time its been looked at by ford techs for the same issue. In KY that means the lemon law is now in effect for this vehicle. Im going to contact the dealership in the morning but I'm running out of options and it seems like the mechanics are really stumped on the issue. I'm thinking its a front axel issue but we will see and I'll keep updating this post.

thats just wrong on so many levels. Ford should force the nearest dealership to service this vehicle as opposed to allowing them basically telling you that they can no longer help you. i am NOT a attorney but as far as i know ALL Ford dealerships in these United States are required to perform a legitimate warranty claim presented to them. i suggest calling Ford corporate and threatening to pursue recourse via your states lemon law. that should get somebody's attention.

good luck with your issue!

Ford's got a ways to go on dealing with their quality issues. When you have what is essentially a cheap truck and the profit margin just doesn't exist to provide top tier service, you create a lot of pissed off people who can't drive their trucks for days or weeks when there are no loaners available.

Yeah, loaners aren't promised in the warranty, but most folks don't own spare vehicles and rentals are expensive. Nobody is happy.

Part of it has to do with the fact that ford has to work through a dealer network, but then again so do all the other manufacturers.

It's a shame because the mav is a great concept and overall a desirable vehicle for many people. Selling good but cheap trucks to first time buyers is the gateway to making them second and third time Ford customers, but the ones with bad experiences go to competitors instead.

You likely weren't flipping an EB for much if any profit so I'm glad you didn't experience disappointment on that front.

Sucks you are having the wheel bearing issues, but it is now a lemon law eligible vehicle as you've noted.

I would let them try and fix it one more time and you can drive it and determine if you want to keep it or not. Lemon law won't go away if you drive it home from the dealership and check it out for a few weeks.

I am buying using A-plan, so I made sure to order from the dealer that would handle any warranty work, which is the same one my brother uses (since we have the same somewhat unique last name).

It is not supposed to matter, but Ford is not the only brand where dealers treat customers differently on warranty work for vehicles bought elsewhere. From what I've heard, warranty work is not very profitable for dealers.

Too many red flags in a short period of time 😱 I would get moving on the lemon law. Contact Ford for lemon law contact info so you can get reimbursed for every dollar you have in it ASAP. Your local dealer might have a Maverick on the lot that you can move into quickly. I sold my 2019 car in 2022 for everything I had put into it through the lemon law.

So where does the majority of a dealership's profit come from? It's not from
(new/used) car sales, at least not directly. It's from the service and parts department, which accounts for the other 49.6% of the dealership's gross profits, according to NADA.

https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/where-does-the-car-dealer-make-money.html

That said not all service departments are equal. Ford requires a certain level of service from dealers but can not easily force them to hire/train qualified techs. People need to do their homework, read the reviews before buying. As harsh as it seems, don't buy your dream Mav if there isn't a competent dealer near by.
I'm fortunate to live close to 2 dealer service departments that get the job done without games. 1 is bright and shinny while the other looks like a hell hole go figure. Some dealers don't seem to realize that satisfied buyers are repeat buyers.

So sorry for you. I have seen many serious issues like this, and rethinking keeping/taking my truck whenever it comes in. I only have one vehicle so it needs to be a great performer.

Unfortunately dealers seem to get a bone crossways in their posteriors when you don’t buy the truck where you take it for service. Do to the lack of availability of the Maverick ford should be talking to the dealers about just servicing the trucks. All of the manufacturers are somehow having the largest sellers taking over dealerships.
Just because they sell a lot of vehicles does not mean they are on top of service. It has been my opinion for 50 years that Fords weakest link are the dealers.
I actually had a similar experience with an F250 4x4. I was told that the noise was due to the exhaust hitting the the bed of the truck. I found the service manager and we went for a quick ride. That ended all doubt that there was something wrong with the my truck.

If you go this route, I wanted to share some info on past experience:
1. Look up your state law on when a vehicle becomes eligibile, and use that phrasing when talking to ford Customer relations. i.e. if it says "out of service for more than 30 days", make sure you say "it has been out of service for 40 days", or "a reasonable number of attempts to repair" and you say "it has been an unreasonable number of attempts to repair at 6 attempts to fix this issue".
2. Be kind. The people talking calls are more information-takers who pass along the info to the actual rep who will call you back to follow up with details and a possible offer. Being angry will only frustrate them and it only makes it slower for you.
3. Keep in mind the process can be a little slow. In the one vehicle I LL'ed, it took two months from the first call to the buyback being completed, but it was a relatively easy process.

With that said, a few things I've learned:
1. Not all dealerships are created equal. As others noted, check reviews and check around. Some dealerships can't keep good mechanics, and others hold on to them, but you have to dig to find them sometimes. In my case, the best Ford service people at a dealership are at a dealership closer to my work than home and well worth the drive for anything serious. I've also had the 'take it back to the dealer where you bought it' and ended up taking it to another location entirely and got it all fixed up within a day (Mustang at the time).
2. Don't hesitate to have another dealership look at it. Sometimes, it just takes getting the right person to look at it. Not all mechanics are experienced, so its hit or miss to get one to look at it who has both the experience and the pride in their work to fix it right the first time.

I attempted to order my maverick from my local dealer but they didn’t seem interested in taking my order. I have family in bowling green and they all recommend that I go to that dealer and when I called to ask about putting in an order they were very excited to help me. The Bowling Green dealership has been wonderful through this entire experience but it’s still very disappointing.

Update: I’ve now reached out to ford twice and it just seems like they don’t really care. I guess because this is a $30k truck it’s just not worth their time. The issue is that there are roughly 3 dealerships that are nearby me because I sorta kinda live in BFE (ft. Campbell, ky area) the dealership in Clarksville was nice but couldn’t get me in till mid September. The three Corporate Ford reps I’ve spoken to have all said that because all dealerships are privately owned that they can’t really do anything. I know that’s not true because Ford has threatened to pull agreements from dealers in the past to carry their vehicles due to price gouging and other things but when it comes to return customer service it just seems like Ford doesn’t give a rats ass about it.
I’m still waiting on a call from the dealer but they are trying very hard to fix it.

This isn't just a Ford issue, all manufacturers are similar unless you go up to Mercedes level or higher. All cars can have issues. All manufacturers have some bad dealers. All car manufacturers are limited on what they can force their dealers to do based on the franchise laws in each state. So if you never want to buy a new car again recognize this can happen for most any car.

Follow the advice of @Ubergadget and accept the reality of the world.

Unfortunately things like this happen to many new vehicles . lots of parts and lots of suppliers . it's still no excuse for poor customer service . many service writers and mechanics are poorly trained . I have bought 7 new vehicles and 4 out of 7 were PIA . had better luck with used ( less money and lower expectations ).
