Best "small truck" insults!?

In a parking lot of bro-dozers, soccer mom Volvos and generic SUV blobs, my Maverick draws attention and comments quite frequently. I enjoy the jabs and don't hesitate to have some friendly banter with friends and colleagues. I did not expect it would be my 14 year old niece to take the award for best Maverick insult to date.

While taking my daughter and niece on a short shopping trip in the Mav, my niece remarked that it was quite nice and was "kind of like a beginner truck."

A beginner truck...like I'm just learning to truck!

I have a hybrid Mav. In a parking lot the other day an old bearded redneck-looking man came up and asked me what it was. I gave him a brief synopsis after which he went into an anti-electric car rant like you have never heard. Like his sister-in-law had to replace batteries at a crazy high cost. Mostly every sentence was punctuated with STUPID STUPID STUPID! As he walked into the grocery store I could hear STUPID fading into the sunset.

But I always end it with, "I love it-the most practical vehicle iver ever owned and you can throw a half ton in the back and still get 36mpg"

The look on big truck guys is utter shock when i tell them I easily get 42mpg but often 55mpg and 85mpg on a few short trips off regular gas. That look they have is like they just found out everything they believe in is flawed, "WTF am I doing with my life?"

Not a "Mav" insult, but I heard a good one about the Bronco Sport I drive. Was with a group of Bronco owners at a 4WD park in Indiana a couple months back. One of the younger folks was looking at a friend's Heritage edition Bronco Sport. He seemed to be impressed we were able to keep up with the Broncos over all the terrain we had traversed so far, and asked a few questions about features. After getting all his questions answered he remarked, "It's nice, but it's just an Escape in a Otterbox."

I tried to explain that Maverick is like the original Hybrid Escape with a bed, in updated form.

I've had a couple larger trucks peel out at traffic lights while next to me. Problem is I don't care; I stopped racing to the next red light when I figured that little problem out at 19.

Friend of mine asked why I didn't get a "real truck" and I told him I could buy two of these for the price of one of those. That was pretty much the end of that line of query.

Agreed. I had a buddy ask me, “When are you gonna buy a real truck”. I related that I have no need to compensate for anything,, then inquired why he drives a huge 4x4 dually.

I drive CDL trucks for a living and I've gotten nothing but compliments on my Maverick in the parking lot at work. Most guys there have big overpriced trucks and when they see mine they're impressed,

Eh, when someone makes a snide comment about my "toy truck" I respond with "I'm getting 43 MPG on average, what is your mileage?". Usually shuts them up. I'm 60 years old now. I've been in construction all my life so I've had big trucks forever. Now that I am out of construction, I love having a small truck. I rarely need a truck anymore but when I do, it is great to have a small truck to throw things in the back of. I picked up 3 sheets of 3/4 plywood the other day. Tipped the tailgate down to the middle setting and carried them home like they show in the videos when they first started advertising the flex-bed. Worked great and the guy in a Tacoma next to me was very impressed that not only would a 4' sheet fit flat in the bed above the wheel bumps, but that the tailgate could pull off that little trick. His truck couldn't do that and it's bigger. It also gets about half the gas mileage my little "toy truck" gets.

Like these two duallys that parked next to me at a B&B last weekend in north central Indiana. They were both crew cabs. One had a full length bed and the other was lifted! I talked to the red one's driver as they were leaving with a large trailer and he said that he and his wife had been talking about the Mav and really liked it. I said I hoped his truck didn't feel intimidated being parked next to the Mav.
