As the Maverick goes...
I knew about the First (US) Maverick. The 1969 Sub-Compact car.
(I had one! Lime Green!)
But, since posting my last post. I did a little research online on the Maverick name... ;)
Ford has used the name Four (4) times, since 1969...

First time: Was the 1969 - through late 1970's SubCompact car.
Second time: was a Rebadged Nissan SUV sold in Australia.
Third time: was another Nissan, made for Ford of Europe.
Four time: was the original name for the European Ford Escape.

So, OUR Mavericks' are the fifth time, FORD has used the name...

Wow! I did not know that.
Good history lesson!

I guess the name of shame was still remembered here in the USA long enough that Ford avoided it nationally. They must have decided enough people here had forgotten about the original embarrassment to give it another go here.

I still cringe when I tell older people the name of my truck because I usually get the same response. “Oh, we bought one of those when they came out……..”
You can guess the rest.

The best thing about having a small pickup, is that no one asks to borrow it!

The VA used to have a sign that said "Green Vehicles Only." They changed it to "Energy Efficient Vehicles Only" because we veterans are a funny lot and would park our green painted trucks in those spots.
My grocery store doesn’t like it when I park my truck here.

In this case I'd say it's compact vehicle if it fits in the spot. I know a lot of y'all on this forum love to think it's some large heavy duty truck you drive but it isn't. I got a passenger plate on my maverick too since my maverick identifies as a compact car.

Well, since I was the only car in the entire lot for the three minutes I was there I don‘t think I caused anyone harm.
The other 7 compact slots remained empty as well as all the regular parking places.

Did I mention that the Mav fit nicely in the compact slot with no overhang left right or rear?

I did a bad thing though didn’t I?
It's like cats, if it fits it sits. Most of the "compact" spots round here really don't fit more than a Honda fit type hatchback without slopping over. I hope I didn't harsh your fun, keep enjoying that Mav!

Compared to my previous vehicles (2006 Scion xB, 2011 Nissan Juke) I would not consider the Maverick a compact. I still have the xB as a back-up / beater and the Mav is a good half-foot wider in the driveway to get around backing out of the garage.

Parking in the garage it barely fits being almost a foot longer than my wife's 2018 Subaru Outback, and the outback is not a short car.

The only thing compact in the Maverick seems to be the legroom for the rear seat, I'm concerned it will give the airlines more ideas.

In my neck of the wood, the DMV registration states "SU", that stands for Sport Utility Vehicle. That's pretty much what it is and I initially called it an SUV too. Based on the fact that my fishing rods don't fit in the bed, an SUV would probably be better for fishing.... ;)

You seem like an informed source on the matter...are the original F-100 Rangers considered the first Ranger?
Ranger was a trim level on the 5th generation F-series (late 60'-early 70's) an F-250 could be ordered as a "Ranger" just like an F-100. Explorer was also a trim level in that era.
