Long time lurker, but finally got my truck 2 weeks ago after about a 10 month wait. Life's been busy and haven't driven / or looked at it much but finally got around to it (didn't notice at delivery even though should have been obvious as angles / lighting were similar)

Anyone notice a lot of panel wavy ness around all 4 door handles ? My right rear is the worst and you really need to catch good angle and lighting to notice it. Now that I saw it, I can't unsee it.

Yeah yeah, it's a "cheap" truck but this is such a basic item that I am shocked it's this bad. Wife's van, very very slight (not ford)...

Anyways, this along with no 60/40 split rear bench and "ok" screen quality are only 3 things that could use improvement.

How is your panel ? You need to look and move to really catch it. First glance you will likely think it's fine.

Pics cant catch it, check out the video.

Yup, just went and looked at mine.
Theres some waviness.

I have white so it shows less. I do keep it very clean and have an extremely shiny surface coating on the paint though.

Not gonna bother me at all because as you said:

“You need to look and move to really catch it. First glance you will likely think it's fine. “

This is my third Ford, you don't buy them for quality and craftmanship, especially not one of the cheapest vehicles on the market. You buy it for value.....
Give me a break. It's sheet metal....
Let me get this straight, you bought it for value ? It sure sounds like your are fine with it breaking down (you know quality right ? )

How about the loose taillight i noticed shortly after this ? It seems like the brackets that hold clips in place are misaligned (weld) which results in the housing clashing with the outer panel....that value to you too ?

Let's stop pretending like these basic issues are acceptable. I have less than 200 miles....

Waaaay back in the 80's I worked briefly in an engineering department of a manufacturer of steel bathtubs. The factory used the same type of deep draw presses that stamps out auto body parts. Those waves were called "fingers" and were created when the dies weren't adjusted properly allowing the right material slip. Those were closely monitored and the parts scrapped.

Like any smooth reflective surface, the shallower the angle of view, the more disruptions will be visible.

Every vehicle I’ve had in the last 30+ years reveals paint anomalies, scratches and even sheet metal dips or rises when viewed this way, especially with dark paint and a glossy surface.

How did I see these things? Looking at the surface at a shallow angle during paint cleaning, using a clay bar and waxing.

You can look at REALLY clean windshield glass from an extremely shallow angle and oftentimes see the same thing.

Very few surfaces are mirror perfect.

Looks like the OP bought a dark vehicle, maybe black.

Hate to say it, but thats the problem with dark paint, it shows every flaw.

I personally think they are overreacting but the damage is done and they can’t unsee it now unless they let it go.

Nobody but them will probably ever notice.

It's one of the cheapest vehicles available on the market built in what will probably be one of the worst time periods for vehicle reliability (COVID). Inflation has caused manufacturers to cut corners and source parts from cheaper vendors. This is on top of the fact that the Maverick was developed in record time (around 3 years from initial concept to rollout) when most vehicles take about 6 years to go from concept to rollout so some things were definitely rushed to compress the R&D process. I have already dealt with a leaking transmission start stop accumulator and leaking CV boots among the myriad of unfixable rattles. This is my last Ford and I'm in the process of selling it to Carvana for $30,500 after paying $25k for it over a year ago. Like I said, this is my third Ford and these issues are nothing new, it's just standard issue Ford, I just don't want to deal with them anymore and want to sell my Maverick before the market cools. I really don't know what point you're trying to make, Ford has NEVER been known for quality or craftsmanship and the Maverick is an undeniable value in today's market. The Ridgeline encompasses quality and craftsmanship when compared to the Maverick but not value. I really don't understand why people expect more from these vehicles. They are the modern day equivalent to a Hyundai Excel based on price point.

I see all kinds of trucks at work from the big 3, dodge and ford especially almost all have small dimples or creases around the handles, can't really avoid it on a large flat panel

If you look/inspect the rest of the truck you will find more waves and imperfections everywhere. Yes, around the door handles, but also at the bottom of the doors, bottom of tailgate, around the door windows, hood, the roof has identical waves/dents on each side, the top of the bed rail that runs across the bottom of the rear window is really noticeable, etc, etc.

If you have OCD and really go over every inch of this truck you will find more and more. You have to look at the paint/panels at the right angle, in the right lighting conditions but they are there. The darker colors show it more pronounced.

The issue here is that some people notice things like this and others don't or dont care if they do. These "imperfections" are part of the build process at the factory and all Mavericks, and most if not all other new trucks, have them. I compared my new Maverick with less than 100 miles to other new Mavericks at the dealer and they all had the same wavy ness and imperfections in the same spots. Those who say that their Maverick does not have them, LOL! They all do.

If you obsess about your new truck, you will also notice crearcoat scratches, scuffs, and all kinds of other imperfections on the exterior and in the interior.

The Jeep Wrangler is pretty bad. Big waves in the door panels that are very noticeable, around the door hinges, door handles, etc. Ask me how I know.

I will echo what others have said here, this is a low end vehicle and as such it will look and play the part.

This is precisely why I would never pour large sums of money into the truck buying goodies, expensive wraps or professionally done ceramic coats and the like. Not that kind of vehicle for me. Drive it, maintain it meticulously like I do all my vehicles and use it. I look at the Maverick the same as I did my Rangers, butt cheap transportation that will get me from point A to point B.

The big difference now is the fact that for me it now costs a little over 30K to go butt cheap instead of 15K. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Of the 1000's of posts I have read on this forum, this is the most bizarre. And that's saying a lot.
