I had my first oil change completed at my local Ford dealership in my 2022 2.0l EcoBoost today.

They used Motorcraft CXO5W30BSP oil and Motorcraft FL910S filter, $88.05 out the door.

The oil used is a synthetic blend, recommended by Ford for the 2022 2.0l EcoBoost.
What is the consensus here? Stick with the blend or go full synthetic next time?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

I put Royal Purple in all my vehicles, shit even my riding mower . I recommend that especially since you have a turbo. It’s a racing oil pretty much, but it’s one of the best oils out there. I change oil every 5k on all my vehicles. I’m a Master Technician for over 25yrs if you have any questions would answer them.

Whether a Blend or Full Syn doesn't matter much any more. Not an issue in 2023.

Technically, to preserve warranty:
The only thing that matters on an oil jug or bottle you buy are these WSS numbers printed there:
Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 (0w-20 for the Hybrid only)
Ford WSS-M2C961-A1 (5w-30 for Ecoboost only)
Ford WSS-M2C963-A1 (0w-30, Ecoboost only when you might start it at below -10F)

Or, if it says Ford Motorcraft oil, in the right weight you need, you don't need to think about any WSS spec (usually). That's the house brand after all.
Sure a dealership needs to make sure they don't put in an LSPI-prone oil in an Ecoboost turbo DI engine, but these days that problem doesn't really exist anymore with SN+ or SP ILSAC/API oil, ANY brand.

I use Mobile 1 in every thing from riding mowers to my vehicles.
Gives you an extra edge if your oil is, dirty, too hot or low in level.

I would recommend you consider using a Full Synthetic 5W-30 oil that meets all Ford's oil specs. Oil post always seem to turn into debates and mud slinging. Just remember turbo's can get hot and they utilize the oil for lubrication and cooling, it's not just for the engine.

Did my own change on Saturday.
Always have used Motorcraft on everything I have owned (ALL Fords)
5w30, this time.
I had less the 2000 miles (odometer read: 1933) and plan on changing it at the next 2000.
I will be keeping an eye on the oil's color and texture for the next few changes...

Do what the engineers say in the owner's manual. They know more than anyone here.
So should we go with the oil life monitor or with some arbitrary number people throw out there for when to change oil?

I understand the desire to change the oil early for the first time on a new vehicle, but continuing that trend at 2000 mile intervals, particularly with full syn oil, is just a waste. Unless you are pulling a lot of weight, really dirty conditions, etc. One man's opinion.

I would imagine Ford doesn't want to pay for warrantee fixes and thus tells their dealerships which oil to use.

I see no reason to go full synthetic unless I’m driving it rough all the time. Along with putting a ton of miles on it quickly. IMO

Thank you. This is some of the best information I e seen in this site. I’ll follow your recommendations. 👍
