Well at 1284 miles I figured it was time to dump the oil and filter.

I made the mistake of removing the entire 950lb skid plate... won't do that again!

Refilled with 5w30 Ultra Pennzoil and used a Baldwin full size filter. Fit perfectly without any interference.

Took an oil sample. Looked like there was a bit of silver in the old oil...we will see!

Depending on mileage I may change it again before I travel to Florida in late January. I'll likely put around 5k on that trip since the wife and I will leave the Sunshine state mid February and detour thru Naw'lins and Texas before we come home.

I want my bride to visit a couple Texas dance halls where I used to Two Step in my younger days.

One stop will be the Broken Spoke in Austin and maybe the Continental Club to hear some rockabilly music.

Should be back home early March...then back to work.

How do you plan to change the oil without removing the skid plate next time?

I dumped mine at 2000 miles, stuff stunk to high heaven. Don’t know what kind of nasty crap Ford puts in them, but hopefully they don’t put it back in when I go for the 10k “first service” (will be its third oil change by then). Didn’t find the FX4 skid plate to be a big deal. Has a tab to hold it, then use one hand to hold the rest of it while starting a bolt with the other hand.

I'm going to get a drain plug with a hose fitting on it... might have to cut an access hole in the skid plate if the one that's already there won't work.

I can live with removing that small cover to access the filter.
