I have a 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid. December I had it to the dealer at 1900 Miles because it started making a bizarre noise switching from Ice to hybrid. they had the truck for 28 days, did provide a rental however, returned to me with no problem found. last month I took it to the dealer, a different one for the same issue, they had my vehicle for 8 days with no rental . they said they could not duplicate the sound even though I told them the sound happens at drive-thrus stop and go while driving at traffic speed at times but not all the time. they put roughly six miles on my truck and didn't find anything. when I picked up the truck, I drove away about 5 miles when I encountered the sound once again. I am very very frustrated with the fact that everyone keeps trying to tell me the noise is normal it is not. I have never heard another hybrid making this noise . I am now reaching out to the community in the Forum for your feedback. Please listen to the files I have attached. These are the same files I have sent to THE BIG Ford in the sky and also provided to the dealer. I still have an open Ford case number. It is my second case for this issue and I am trying to get a rental from FORD to get the vehicle seen a third time . The dealer is balking at providing me a rental. I don't think this is fair, more importantly, to my MTC community, are any of you experiencing the noise and awful shudder ? I would like to thank everyone in advance who takes the time to listen to these clips and provide feedback.

SADLY, THESE SOUNDS ARE NOT NORMAL.

Please understand that until 1900 miles, my truck was silent and purred every where I went.

When you are in the drive up and it's doing it shift into neutral and then into reverse then back into neutral then into drive. If it makes that horrible noise when in gear but not neutral you are listening to the automatic electronic engine running sound your federal government requires electric vehicles to make when in gear (not sure but believe at less than a certain speed).

I am not changing gears nor putting into neutral it is the engine cutting off and turning back on...BUT the noise is the loud sound that sounds like fan blades hitting something. I will edit the videos tonight so that the sound is as soon as you play the video. Thank you for taking the time to respond :)

The sound in the last video at the very end (48 seconds)....

Mine has made that same noise before, but it has been a good long while since I last heard it. Only happens when switching from ICE to electric, and usually while slow or stopped.

It reminded me of an old Plymouth my parents hat that would 'diesel' for a second or two after taking the key out and that was due to bad gas. Not sure if its the same thing, but I haven't heard it in mine since I changed which gas station I use.

I have edited the videos so that the sounds are more evident (shortened the videos).

Except that sometimes it will make that sound for almost 2 full seconds. When it happens while at speed, it also sends a significant shudder through out the truck and is getting worse.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! :)

Thats why I wanted to watch this thread in case it comes back for me. Mine would do it for 2 to 3 seconds and it sounds scary when it happens.

Ok, just because it's easy to do change gas and try to get tier 1. Maybe if you are nearly full get couple gallons 93 octane . Check threads and send shortened video to several who have had their damper plate between the ice and trans replaced and ask them about sound. Also because of easy to do and considering it seems to happen after several months driving try changing ice air filter. Just a thought.. in 1980's I had trouble with a Cadillac 4-6-8 v8 (solenoids would prevent some cylinders from operating). Suffered from vapor locking. Trouble wound up being over 25% alcohol gasoline which was causing excessive sensor chilling resulting in gasoline mix to be way to lean. After 10-12 minutes sensor would heat up enough to go about 9-10 more miles. So maybe too much alcohol, who can tell without a test? There is an easy test but I do not recall it.

Sounds like if on an automatic you put it into park before stopping. Transmission maybe??

Sadly that noise is normal. ( and probably will not be a problem over the long term )
Mine has done it from day one. What you are hearing is the engine shutting down and bouncing off the damper. There is s spring cushioned damper between the engine and the hybrid drive. On occasion the engine shuts down awkwardly and you will hear the springs in the damper bouncing back and forth. Sorry to say I don't think there is a fix for this. Check out the hybrid escape forums - you will hear the same complaints. I have found ( this is anecdotal ) - I have found that running higher octane fuel - 91 or 93 seems to almost eliminate this problem. The engine seems to shut down quicker? But again. I only believe this to be true and have not tested it otherwise.

Maybe not the best way to say it, but when it goes from gas side shutting down to only electric.

See if you can take the mechanic or service writer for a test drive where you can point out the sound to him or her. If the mechanic is older, has used lots of loud power tools, listened to a lot a loud music with earbuds, or spent a lot of time on a shooting range, etc, their hearing may not be as good as yours and they may be telling the truth when they say they did not hear anything. If you are in the car and can hear it and they cannot that might be part of the problem.

With having been in the shop for 28 days you may be getting close to your states lemon law return requirements. Know what your states lemon law requirements are and watch the dates and requirements carefully. Once you start talking about a lemon law return with corporate Ford you may get much better service especially if you are in a state which brands the car titles as being "returned under lemon law".
