You would be losing some width so maybe they would look tucked in a little too much? Maybe spacer or different offset wheels to counter that?

im not sure if the 0.3 inch loss will be super noticeable but with the increase in size perhaps. Really difficult to know what they will look like. I’m at 30K miles on the stock pirelli tires and they maybe have 10K left so going to run them through the summer and get the new tires for this winter. Maybe October. Just trying to figure out the plan.

But his fenders will be looking beautiful just like 60s and 70s cars.

lol, that’s what my old Chevy truck looked like with farm tires. Doubt it will be that bad :) Although I must be old cause I don’t mind that look.

My only concern would be the speedo. Otherwise, I wish I went skinnier than 245s and opted for more sidewall.

Am I crazy? Looking for a taller tire but don’t want to sacrifice MPG with a wide one. I’m thinking of going tall and skinny like my old farm truck tires. Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT come in a 225/75/R17 size! 30.35 tall and 8.7 wide so 1.85 taller and 0.3 skinnier than the stock tire I have now. Tall skinny tires are great in the snow we get here. No idea what they would look like, no one has tried them yet. Would fill the wheel well better, no rubbing, and might not lose much mpg compared to the 9.5 tires many guys end up with. Crazy or not?
Great great thread. If I can only find an 225/70R17 (yet to be successful), I would do it in a heartbeat. 225/75R17 - me waiting for a braver soul to try it out and report back.

6.9" Tread Width (.3" wider than FX4 Pirelli 225/65/R17)
41 lbs (a little heavy compared to the Toyo 245/70R17 35lbs)
688 Revs per Mile
15/32 Tread Depth

Someone posted the largest tire size you can specify with for scan, I do not remember. I am most likely going to general altimax 45's 235/65/18 = 30.03", 28.75 lbs when my Michelin primacy 225/60/18 28.5" are gone. Nowhere near yours

Max is 235/65R17. I'm not sure if you can set anything outside of that, the 225/65R17, and whatever the 18" Lariat tires are.

true about better in the snow, dependent on the tread. back when I was playing in the snow with some Jeep buddies my tall/skinny went where the wide tires failed.
I can second that!

The 235/75R17 is too big without a lift. The 245/70R17 Toyo AT3 is 30.6 and that’s the biggest you can go without a lift. The 225/75R17 is 30.35 so actually a little less “stuffed” than the Toyo in sidewall fit and should give a lot better gas mileage. There are 235/70 but I was looking for a taller tire.
Have you verified that the 235/75r17 is to big? if so, how? What about a 225/75R17? Without a front lift. i assume no problem will occur in the rear, only the front.

I want to try the 225/75R17 also. not Very many to chose from. It seems there would still be clearance from the pinch weld at the front wheel well. It’s the money and unknown part that’s holding me back. I saw an interesting video on YT about the benefits other than MPG of going to a taller tire rather going as wide as possible like many want to do.

I think the 225/75 should fit but after considering it carefully I think the 235/70 is what I’m going with.

The big problem I’m finding in the 225/75R17 ATs is the tire weights are all 40 lbs or heavier. So the 235/70 might be the better choice.

30” tire so 1.5" bigger than stock FX4 28.5" to fill the wheel well but more clearance space for bumps compared to 245/70 at 30.6" that barely fit. They will be 0.5" wider than stock but 0.3" less wide than the 245/70.

I found the Firestone Destination AT2 in a 235/70 and it's highly rated and pretty lightweight at 32lbs especially compared to the 245/70 tires tires that are 35 lbs or heavier.

Im still interested in the Cooper tire at 225/75R17 but like the more aggressive look of the Firestone.

I’ve got another 8-10K possibly on my current tires so I may change my mind a couple more times before then :)
