My Mav Hybrid has been needing the Sync 3 Update for a while, but it will not perform the update over my wifi. Despite my 200MB wifi wireless download speed on my 1 GB wired network.

I asked the dealer to do it, and they said that the charge would be $179. I said nevermind. Are other people getting this done at the dealer under warranty? If not, is there a published procedure to do it manually?

Download the update to your desktop- Extract the zip files and then put on a thumb drive- Plug into the USB connector and it should perform the update (Truck needs to be running) - However I had this work for an update last year but the most recent update is not working for some reason.

Just did a Sync 3 update on our Expedition. Thumb drive worked after a couple of attempts. But also discovered that Sync does not like connecting to wifi with multiple bands (2ghz and 5ghz) running at the same time. If I turn one of them off it connects fine and will update.

The Sync system sometimes will not change the progress bar on the screen, even when it is downloading. But give them a break...Sync 3 is only 8 years old. They're still working out the bugs. 😉

I used a thumb drive and it works well.

Good to know on the different bands- I know some newer devices still refuse to pair with 5GHZ-

To update my Escape, I have to keep the car running while it downloads and installs. It takes a good 10 minutes.

A friend downloaded and updated her Maverick while just sitting in our driveway. Maybe there is a coffee shop or something near you with Wifi. Tesla owners have been known to update at Starbucks.

Ford used to update my F150 on service visits. Was never charged for it.

Not a "warranty" issue. It is a painstakingly slow process, but can be done on your own. Some dealers might give you a courtesy install, but not many these days.

I guess my point is either fix the ability to do it over WiFi (why else is there a "check for updates" feature) or perform the update as a courtesy. The lack of ability to update over WiFi is a warranty concern in my opinion.

everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course.

after I had the same issue downloading via a strong wifi signal - which I'm certain of because my smart garage door opener would not work until I put another AP nearby in the house - I just downloaded it to a usb key and updated.

it's not worth my time chasing the service dept. what if they update but it's not the latest that you see on Ford's website? waste of time for everyone.

it's not hard as long as you have a (somewhat) large usb stick. I think the update package is over 2GB so you need a 4GB drive, at least. then login to ford.com and under support and service you'll actually see sync updates right there, assuming you have telematics enabled on your truck. (if you can use Fordpass, you will see sync version update info accurately here.)

if you haven't set up your Maverick on your Ford account that's easy also but I won't bother explaining it here.

just insert the usb key under the center console, start the truck and wait for the update to start. very simple.

When I performed the steps manually last night, it didn't generate the XML file to upload to Ford like it should so that Ford knows the update succeeded.

Then later I got the "deep sleep" nasty gram because it was sitting so long doing the update with no ICE.

I've had that happen. Not a big deal, the next time or one of the times you update again it'll get the current version.

How do I know if I have Sync-3 or not? The manual just says, "If your truck is equipped with Sync-3..."

Is it one of those "If you don't know, you don't have it" kind of situations? Thanks for any help (and for leaving out any condescending remarks :) )
