I ordered a '23 Mav last September, a hybrid XL. No build date yet, and I understand there's a good chance I'll never get a date in this cycle if conditions hold.

So, I've been casually keeping tabs on the local market for other options. My 2010 Prius has 220k miles; who knows how much longer it will continue to cooperate.

Found a used 2019 Ridgeline RT (base model) with 28k miles at a local dealership. Visited the dealer yesterday. Negotiated the price down to $27.5k, which I consider a good price. These base models are apparently hard to find; this in part explains the lowish price relative to other used trims.

Appears in good shape. Local one-owner. The vehicle has an open recall on the backup camera, and it's been on the lot for several weeks as they're waiting on the part to arrive. They couldn't let me test drive it given the recall. I put down a $500 fully refundable deposit and now have first right if refusal when the part comes in (possibly in May, but who knows).

So, hold out for the Maverick that I may never get or take the sure thing in the Ridgeline? Good news is I have time to decide. I have 3 kids under the age of 12, so passenger room and comfort would presumably be better in the Ridgeline. We have a minivan flas our family hauler, so this would be mostly for in-town trips. Mav would get much better gas mileage. I occasionally tow a small 6x8' utility trailer, both options are more than capable in that regard.

The gently used Ridgeline, at this price, is a good value for me. A new Mav, at MSRP, is a good value. Most other small to mid size trucks in this market are more than I want to pay or are price inflated. I'm not interested in overpaying. If I get the Ridgeline, I'd do well to recoup my cost after taxes and fees if I decide to flip it if my Mav ever gets scheduled for production. Would probably lose at least $2k in tax cost is my guess. I think I would be happy with either.

Very logical well reasoned planning IMO. (y) Don't sell yourself short on considering ECO 2.0 as viable alternative to hybrid for basic utility purposes. Probably easier to get a test drive in ECO too if you haven't already driven any Maverick.

The Ridgeline is a great truck. I understand there's a full redesign coming soon, but I'm not at all clear on when. Also the all-new Colorado is on the market now. An all-new Tacoma is on the market soon. And an all-new Ranger is coming this fall. So you have several midsize choices.

I think your basic logic is sound. The Ridgeline has won journalists hearts since it came out. It's won it's share of best truck awards. The Maverick and Santa Cruz rock, but odds are they'll drop in price and improve in reliability and content over time. So your strategy seems like a winner to me.

Lastly there are a few threads on this site from Ridgeline owners who bought Mavericks. You might strike up a personal conversation with one of those owners and process their personal experiences good and bad.

Whatever your choice, good luck and remember that pretty much any vehicle built this century is high safety content, high quality, and a solid choice. They mostly don't make clunkers these days. Except Stellantis. I'll never forgive them for killing Chekhov.

Go for it. The Ridgeline is a good truck. That's a good price for one.

That's a good point. I had written off the EB since the hybrid is what drew me to the Mav, but if I'm willing to make a concession on gas for a Ridgeline, why not do the same for the EB?

That's a pretty good price on the Ridgeline! If your budget can expand a bit see if you can find a 2021+ Sport so you get the interior and exterior facelift, adaptive cruise control, and 9-speed transmission.

First, I own a hybrid lauriet mav and I absolutely love it.

That said, buy the Ridgeline. It's a great vehicle and that is a great price given where we are.

Yeah, I do like the exterior of the newer model Ridgelines better. I'm not one for interior features. The less it has, the less that can go wrong as far as I see it. Price is the big thing for me; I've had several Tacomas and Rangers in the past, but it's hard to get one for under $30k without buying heavily used. Same for Ridgeline. This one is appealing based on price and mileage.

Thanks. Was looking for validation. 👍

After thinking about it a bit more, my other bit of advice is to definitely drive the Ridgeline, especially to include parking it forward and backing in with cars either side. I remember my Ridgeline test drive years ago. I loved the Ridgeline, but the turning radius killed it for me. Remember the turning circle is 2x the radius. But it's only an issue if you drive in the city like me. Even the Maverick feels like a whale on a tight right turn with cars parked both sides of the street.

Turn radius (not circle)...

Ridgeline: 21.7 feet
Maverick: 20.0 feet
My old Ranger: 18.7 feet
2010 Prius: between 17.1 to 18'

Doesn't seem like a lot of difference, but it was enough for me to pass on a midsize truck.

Thanks for that. Definitely plan to drive it when they'll let me. I live in a semi rural area but commute to work in downtown Knoxville once or twice a week. The Prius makes it easy to zip around in areas like that. Our van is a Honda Odyssey, so comparable to the Ridgeline. Not as easy to negotiate in tighter spaces but I can probably work around it.

It's at a Honda dealership, and they're doing it as certified pre-owned. So, 12mo. 12k miles bumper to bumper and 7 years 100k mile powertrain.
If you would be happy with the Honda it seems like a good deal. It is a big gamble on the Mav you ordered.
