Had an oil change done at the dealership today and they didn't mention the airbag recall. Is this normal?

So before anyone blasts me for having the oil change done at the dealership I have a little over 100K points so why not.

Anyway, I took my Mav to the dealership today got the oil change done and there was no mention of the safety recall regarding the driver side airbag. The last time I took it into the dealer for an oil change they did the trailer brake recall with out even asking but this time nothing.

I didn't bring it up because I thought they would but they didn't. Is it normal for a dealership to not mention a safety recall issued by Ford and the NHTSA?

Did you receive the letter from Ford about the recall? If not, your Maverick is not one of those built within the affected time frame.

Yes I received two letters from Ford regarding the airbag recall. I should also mention that this was the same dealership I purchased the vehicle from.

They wouldn't have done it while you were going to wait for oil change. It takes half a day to drop the headliner and a pillars to change the side curtain airbags which they would need to order for it also. They may have just glanced over it or didn't know when they would be able to fit you in to do it.

You have to book an appointment, they won't go out of their way to do warranty/recall work.

Perhaps they still cannot get the parts and are feeling hopelessly depressed.
So why bring up the bad news to a good customer and sour the visit.;)

They're assuming you have the letter. Or, they already know it was delivered. Schedule the appointment. Be happy.

I wonder if the what the dealer is getting paid by Ford is worth the time it takes?

Like anything you need to ask the service manger to order the parts needed to fix the airbags, They have had to take care of the trucks that were put on hold as they weren't allowed to release the trucks from their lot till the airbags were upgraded. So now that they are caught up you should be able to get the airbag modules replaced

Thanks for the advice everyone. Next time I bring it in for service I will mention any recalls when making the appointment

@VBLariat This time the dealer charged $70 for the oil change versus $50 the first time. After misc fees the total was around $77. It used 15,406 points.
