Did you hear that? Yeah, what is it? It's those stupid louvers vibrating, but you only notice it above 55mph.

I like grape jam.
..
You mean the front? Is it high pitched? I do plan on getting a hybrid. I've installed sound absorbing material in almost all cars we've owned.

Boysenberry or mehaw jam👍

The picture on the OP (which was later confirmed to be done by the dealer) looks like someone tried to use a hole saw. Toothed saws just won't work on a spun fiber product like that shield. It needs to be cut. The simple way to make a die cutter from regular tools is grab a couple spare hole saws. Grind off the teeth and then grind in a bevel (with the hole saw held in a bench vise). To use it, grab a spare piece of lumber as the die backing, and then pound the die cutter through with a hammer. The part that will take the longest would be modifying the hole saw, but that only needs to be done once. Once a shop has the right size hole saws modified, punching the holes out should only take 5 minutes.

And I thought of this, someone who's only experience with a shop is watching AvE and ThisOldTony. ;)

Hole saw works fine. Did mine using a bimetal cutter (which the recall documentation recommends) and as long as you don't run the drill too fast it doesn't really tear things up even though I didn't have a wood backer piece (the docs suggest to). Even cleaned up the edges nice with a quick whiff of a torch.

Although I noticed the placement of the rearmost hole seems a bit strange. It ends up placed right below and mostly obscured by the rear of the subframe. Only major assembly above it is the electric steering rack. Thought maybe it's more an Escape/Corsair thing but Fordbossme's video appears to be the same circumstance on an Escape:

I have wondered if the New Metal Pan from the Off Road version wouldn't be a better fix?

I also wonder if it will fit?

Do you know for a fact it was done at the factory or potentially done by your dealership prior to delivery? I would have a very hard time believing something like this would be done at the factory. Did you ask your dealership if they did the work after the truck came off the transporter?
Why would the factory or the dealership even drill these holes? Not having my MAV yet, I can't go investigate.

Ah so they changed something in the production line and did not want to throw away the pans that were already at the factory. Interesting, still, what are those holes for?

To increase engine compartment airflow and allow oil or other combustible fluids to drain out rather than pool and potentially risk fire in the event of a catastrophic engine failure.

Anybody know how much it pays to perform this recall? The answer will probably explain why techs aren't taking an hour to pretty-up a repair that nobody will hardly ever see.

0.4 hours (24 minutes) for the entire recall procedure - removing the AGS vanes and drilling/cutting the holes. Escape gets an hour while Corsair gets 1.2-1.7 hours (depending on if the unit in question is equipped with the 360 degree camera.

LOL Yep that pretty much explains it for me. I don't know how much effort or work actually goes into modifying the shutters, but I'd reckon If I've got less than 1/2 hour to do it both, I'm spending my time on the shutters to make sure I don't scratch anything. If the stone deflector needs holes, I'm stopping once it has them.

From an ex-tech; If you want your *checks notes* stone deflector to look pretty, maybe tip the guy doing the work if you're gonna expect him to spend free time on your truck. Your problem is with Ford, not that guy...

*edit* jsus that's not specifically directed at you
