What I'm wondering is why didn't the pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking work on the initial impact? I thought that was standard on all trims
The story was saying something about bad dust blast, so bad he couldn't see the truck get hit with him being 10 feet away. Something like that might prevent the pre-collision system from working.

well - it was in a dust storm with zero visibility so the cameras couldn't see anything possibly.

That’s a lot of touch up paint pens to cover those scratches.

At least the driver and hopefully everyone involved are okay. Truck did its job. Sucks he’ll be back of the line waiting for a replacement Maverick and for now end up just walking and bumming off rides from others.

Maybe a minute or 2 from exiting the truck to the semi hitting it when another dust wave came in. I was about 10 feet from the truck and couldn't see it only hear it get hit.
Glad you were viewing from that vantage point. WOW! 🤕

So that's how you convert a Ford Maverick to a Nissan Cube.

Driver was not in the truck when the big truck slammed into it.

Crazy for sure. Taken from Reddit. We for sure need a RIP section.

His story:

After the initial impact I called 911 and they told me to stay in the vehicle. I could feel other cars and trucks barely missing me as I sat there and occasionally could see them swerve last second.
The airbag had already deployed and when I took my seatbelt off I couldn't get it back on. At that point I just kept feeling like I was playing with fire inside the truck. The dust clouds were coming in waves and as soon as I could tell it was safe I got out and went to the side of the road. I was probably sitting in the truck for 3 or 4 minutes by that point.

Wow what a mess. Sure seems like these Mavericks are cursed or something. A shame so many are getting wrecked. I hope that is not a bad sign or omen. If I ever get mine I may have to have it blessed.

Noted post was from Texas, so thinking a dust storm was to blame for pileup. We used-to drive through a notorious foggy area, so Dad would remind us that when he suddenly drove off the highway, it was to avoid getting into a pile-up. And we should promptly exit the car and run further from road when stopped.

Great karma. Instead of looking for another Maverick I would buy a bigger truck.:)
