just got the ottocast wireless CarPlay dongle and it works great on all trim level, using the c connector is very fast on startup. I do have a question I got a short usb c to c cable but it doesn’t work is there a special cable ? The c to c cable that came with it works great but is a little to long.

Have you noticed that it drains your phone battery?

Not really I have great battery life on my phone
Good to know! 69 bucks on Amazon right now too. I shouldn’t have spent so much at the dispensary just now! Oh well, I have a bday coming up.

I just installed this yesterday and it's great. Plugging my iPhone in every time I got in the Mav was a nuisance and then the connection into my phone had to be just right. Now I can leave my phone in my pocket and it connects after a few seconds. Def worth the $ to me.

Which model did you get? Amazon has a bunch of different listings and I want to make sure I get the best one.

If you want to cast Netflix and YouTube you’re going to cough up at least $150

I was looking at these and a few others and if I am understanding the descriptions properly anything that can do Netflix, YouTube etc is actually using your phone as a hotspot. Can anyone confirm this?

I have a MInt Mobile unlimited plan and use about 30gb a month streaming music and video at work but there is a 5gb limit for tethering and want to be sure what I am getting before laying out the cash.

Yes, they are basically like plugging a fire stick in, that can also do CarPlay. Requires phone/vehicle hotspot.

Unless you have a jailbroken iphone, or Android phone, then you can mirror for free with the Ottocast(or any wireless adapter.) Though you won't get Netflix,HBO Max, or anything with DRM. YouTube,IPTV, and other video apps work.

To answer the original question about the short USB C cable not working, I'd check the listing of where you ordered from. Odds are it's probably a charging only cable. You'll need a cable that also supports data transfer.

Often time the cheaper cables out there will be power only, as the manufacturer can save money by only needing the 2 power wires, and not the shielding and extra wires needed to also transfer data.
