I may have gotten a bad one. I ordered another and give it another try
Sadly, that seems to be very common. It's really hit or miss. Actually, mine started acting strange as well. Connects intermittently. I ended up disconnecting it.

A follow-up. The second one acts the same. Same "no media available on this device ". It says that it is connected for calls and audio. Never saw the blue screen shown on their instruction video. I'm going to send the second one back

I eventually returned the first Ottocast and tried a replacement. I got it to work for a few days but then it started dropping the connection. After a few days of this I returned it to Amazon and bought a Motorola unit from Ebay. It took a minute to set up and has worked well since. I am happy with the Motorola

These things all seem massively overpriced.
Compared to what ? As a Factory option this would be tied to Sync 4, which is a whole lot more than a ~$100 or less add on.

Personally I prefer the cheaper head unit and the adapter than a higher price tag on the truck or lux package.

Just that it's about 39 cents worth of plastic and cheap electronics. I'd have been happy with an AUX port.

And Cruise Control is just 39 cents worth of cheap plastic and cheap electronics, and a few code changes in Forscan, yet you have to jump a multi-thousand dollar trim level to get it. 🤷‍♂️

The feature difference between a XLT and XL if both have CP360 is just Cruise, rims and power locking tailgate. The sum of the parts is not the equivalent of the price difference.

I think it is disingenuous to look at anything as its value strictly in its cost.

I like the ability to add features, but that is a bummer for those that would utilize an Aux port it is gone, but I see why. Phones are dropping the AUX so it becomes less relevant when Carplay / Android auto is present. They targeted an age bracket that I think does not miss Aux and appropriates CP/AA or just using a thumb drive for music. Same for no Nav, younger drivers don't care about it, and would rather see the cost savings and use CP/AA with an App.

I also think it is silly those that wanted Sirius XM on all trims, but again I think that is an older demographic that wants those, rather than the target market for the truck. The stats released show these are selling to a lot of the older crowd and retirees too, so I guess Ford didn't realize how broad of a market they were going to hit.

Don't forget: Power mirrors w/spotters, keyless entry keypad, rear center armrest/cupholders, 4x D-link bed connectors, wiper-activated headlamps, perimeter alarm, and bed cubby storage. With cruise, rims and locking tailgate it's worth the $2365 difference IMO.

Power mirrors w/spotters
you get with 360
keyless entry keypad
$115
4x D-link bed connectors
$160, $40 each for factory, kind of insane
rear center armrest/cupholders,
I don't ride in the back, haha, but a plenty of options with FITS. Personally dont see this as any added value
wiper-activated headlamps
on the XL, low beams are always on as DRL, I don't see what difference this makes ? Lariat I get it because the DRL are the eyebrow leds.
perimeter alarm
$235

bed cubby storage.
$38

Tailgate lock + Wiring harness $140
Cruise Buttons + OBD Cable $125

it's worth the $2365 difference IMO.
My math puts that a touch over $800 for everything but rims. That leaves $1500 for whatever rims you can think of, more than likely you can get takeoffs around $500. These are also the Ford store prices, or first google result, and don't reflect and coupons / discounts etc.

So for someone frugal, it makes sense for the XL. For someone who doesn't feel the need or want for all of that, it makes more sense.

For someone that values their time more than the savings, just pay the Ford Tax :).

( now take my opinion with a grain of salt, I have an XL I love, but waiting on an ordered Lariat that the push button and ACC got me to get to. about a 6k sticker jump from my XL. the ACC upgrade is too much for me to tackle, so I am paying the Ford Tax. )

Hmm... Thread seems to have gone off the rails a bit, but back to the original question, I bought the Ottocast U2-X and it seems to be working Ok in my non sync XLT, I tried the Carlinkit 4 first and it did not work.
Someone asked about the audio quality, it runs on a 5Ghz wifi link between the phone and the module, there's no bandwidth issues.
