As my Maverick enters production (went into factory on 12/23) I'm debating more on whether I'll go through with the purchase. My current car has had some mechanical issues this year (steering) but the main components have been solid. Part of me is thinking of just keeping my 2012 Impala and banking the car payment but the other part of me knows with my luck the motor will blow the day after I give up my order. Just wondering if others are going through a similar internal conflict with their order.

Edit for context:. Paying cash for the truck is a possibility but even with current rates I believe my cash can earn a higher return than my credit unions loan rate.

If you don't buy it someone else will. Do whatever you want.

Do you know a local mechanic that you would trust to give it a thorough check up (engine/trans) assessment?

I can understand your feelings. Lots of things in life - go with your gut feeling.

The other side of the coin is knowing regardless what the vehicle is, it will cost more in the future.

You can always change your mind even after driving it for a while if you take it. There will not be much depreciation any time soon. You also have to factor in the savings from fuel costs. Gas will not be staying this low for long imo.

I can’t think why someone wouldn’t want it. Hybrid and trucks hold value…and it’s both! Also I am interested in the resale value since the purchase process is incredibly low. Not to mention the utility…

Who knows where the future goes. Will you need a truck? Will gas prices go up? Can you get a good price for the Chevy now or later? Can I get a Maverick for the same price in the future? The list goes on.

Did you put down a deposit on the truck? If not, or if it's refundable, take it for a test drive and make sure it's what you want. It's reasonable to have second thoughts before making a larger purchase, but these are good little trucks. If anything, it will save you a few bucks a month on gas, and maybe even insurance.

Refundable deposit. Good idea on the test drive. I'm almost considering flying to Miami for the weekend to rent a maverick from U-Haul (they have them in Miami) just to get an extended test drive before mine comes in.

I don't know about 5k. It definitely was 6 months ago. It's going down though, but there will still be equity in 2023. If you know someone that'll still give me 5K over what I pay for it in April, I'll take your reference!

This is my second time having a new car that is unique and something that kinda shocked the car market.

That's something that may not matter to you. Its not really worth the money you can make by flipping it. I'll admit it, I live a boring life. I just can't help but smile when I see people stare at my new mav as i drive around out in the world.
