I get what you guys are saying, but at this rate you may as well tell people to buy $2000 Civics from 20 years ago so they can put all their money in the market. We're all making what is an objectively foolish financial decision to buy new anyway.
Not necessarily because you also have to consider the benefit. Many of us would not get $2000 worth of utility out of a 20 year old Civic. For me, getting in on the Maverick reservation was also a calculation that I doubt we'll be able to get one this cheap for a few years (plus it's about $10K cheaper than any hybrid SUV I'd be cross shopping in the next few years).

People also forget to calculate the opportunity cost in the cost of ownership. The $4500 cost of AWD @ 6% annual return could be turned into more than $8000 over 10 years of Maverick ownership.
But it is opportunity cost, so for that amount of money, you are giving up driving a vehicle you would enjoy and possibly make use of. For me, it's towing and beach driving, I'll pay the $800/year.

Yes! That's the calculation everyone should do. Is the X $ cost I pay more|less than the Y value I get? I mostly push this because I've seen people say "well, if you can afford the extra $3K then get the AWD just in case you need it." This doesn't account for the true cost and it's not really considering the potential value (or lack of).

Name something brand new as inexpensive, as capable, can fit in a garage, can tow 4k pounds and get better than 25mpg mixed...
plus you can put 1500lbs in the bed.

Florida rates are driven by the threat of Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Hail, Flooding and oh so much more - all the darn drivers from other states! Ha!
I knew FL was pretty bad. Just didn't realize it was THAT bad lol.

Remember we do NOT pay any State Income tax…
No state income tax, but we pay in many other ways (My Epass is autofilling quite frequently these days), insurance being one. I'll gladly take any of these auto rates people are complaining about, let me show you my homeowners insurance!

If most of your driving is city miles then yes it is bad. 22 MPG bad.

We already have seen that the Hyundai Santa Cruz sucks in fuel economy (23 overall, 26 highway, 21 city) the Maverick EcoBoost only having one more MPG (22 vs 21) in city driving is nothing to write home about.

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/43982.shtml

I have seen people switch from Hybrid to EcoBoost to get their Maverick built faster. Just remember what you are giving up in doing so. Paying $1085 more for the EcoBoost Engine and getting 45% worse city MPG resulting in higher fuel costs.
if the only thing you care about in vehicle ownership is maximum gas mileage- it negatively skews your whole experience in having a nice new vehicle that you researched thoroughly before deciding to purhcase and denies you experiencing all the positives. For those of us that consider the total experience of ownership including versatility, fun factor, DRIVING experience MPG is mostly irrelevant overall when it checks so many other boxes on my list. You can be a Scrooge all you want, but no need to act like the Grinch who stole Christmas for the rest of us excited by the prospect of how nicely the Maverick works for our individual circumstances.

The 2022 Maverick Hybrid is also a Truck and it will get great gas mileage especially when compared to the 2022 Maverick Ecoboost.

You have presented a random old vehicle with poor gas mileage I present my 2015 Honda Fit Ex that gets 34 MPG combined, 32 MPG city and 37 MPG highway.

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2015_Honda_Fit.shtml

Yes your example from 21 years ago makes the Ecoboost look much better. My example from 6 years ago makes the Ecoboost look worse.
wouldn't you really be happier riding a E-bike everywhere? I mean really, look at all the money you would save on gas! Leave the car decisions to the rational adults in the room :devilish:

Much of the appeal of the Maverick is its low cost of ownership, and for many (including me) the utility/value derived from driving "experience" (as it relates to power) is minimal or zero, so the "total experience of ownership" may include an extra weekend trip or two a year we budget with the cost savings of the hybrid. I view it more as a tool than a toy.

Not a bad idea. Those E-bike haulers are pretty sweet/fun for grocery store runs. With the money saved on the hybrid you could buy one and use it for short trips. Save money, get some exercise/fresh air, save gas! Although, I would say paying more for a less efficient car is exactly a rational decision.

so why even consider the Maverick when you don't need any of the value it offers in addition to xlnt mileage for a truck? Get a Prius and be done with it.

Because the Prius doesn't have as much cargo space and costs more.
