Sorry if this has been covered before, but I'm new to the forum and trying to gather as much info as possible while going back to my dealer for updates (and I've noticed that there is usually more/better info coming from here :))

I'm one of the many who is holding out hope that I'll get a '23 hybrid built at some point in my lifetime, but life is short and I'm not able to wait forever to get a new car. Will dealers at some point contact people to see if they want to switch to Ecoboost just to get something made? I know it depends on allocations available, but wanted to see if anyone else is considering the switch or have talked to their dealers yet and have any insight?

There hasn't been any information or rumors on whether Ford will actually allow this switch, but I would also consider it. Part of the appeal to me is the hybrid mpg, but I'd also like to have a car...

I am in the same boat, a rollover '22 with a '23 hybrid.

I believe Tim said it isn't possible to switch trims or engines in the system, since order banks are closed (this would be considered a new order with a new date).

@fordvideoguy Tim can you confirm?

There will probably be a fair number of stock EBs built. A dealer may be able to enter in a stock EB that would fit your specs - you'd want to work w/ one you trust to keep their word and offer to sell to you first.

You can not change the motor at all, they are balanced/closed out. You can change the trim but if you do it will reset your order date to the day you make the change.

Thanks, Tim, for verifying this. I also have a 23 hybrid ordered and was hoping Ford would allow me to switch to a 2.0 if my hybrid won't get built. My salesman thought I might have that option after the first of the year but he is basically uninformed. It's looking more and more like corporate greed is more important than customer service and treating the ordering customer with respect. If Ford doesn't allow canceled hybrid orders to switch to the 2.0, the 2.0's will be built and go into dealer inventory. The dealers will then sell them for thousands over the sticker price. More profit for dealerships and for Ford!

Ford believes the majority of canceled 23 customers will re-order in 24. That will not happen for me. I will be done with Ford (not that Ford cares) and buy something else. I'm old-school and believe the customer should be treated with respect. If my dealership and Ford doesn't value me I will find someone who does. And yes, that type of dealership and company does still exist.

Here's the problem: where is the evidence to the contrary to Ford? People can post and say they won't buy from them again. But then Ford opens up their order banks and sells out in three days. Which lesson is Ford going to learn?

It would be nice if Ford were to put in a way to convert the hybrids over to EB once the EB orders are complete. But who knows if that is something Ford ever considered when they programmed their software.

I know, bob, you are correct. I'd like to know the percentage of canceled 22's that didn't roll over to 23. The advantage Ford has is that there isn't much competition in the Maverick's class. Some customers, like me, simply can't wait another year. When I ordered my 23 hybrid I knew it was a bit of a gamble but I wasn't in a hurry to get a vehicle. My situation changed and now I need something fairly soon. If my current situation existed when I ordered I would have ordered a 2.0.

Ford is in the unique situation to have a high-demand vehicle that is also not a hugely profitable vehicle for them to produce. They'll sell what they can for as much as they can. I understand that. My problem with Ford is the lack of communication and lack of transparency during the ordering process. During the ordering time, once orders for hybrids hit Ford's expected build number, hybrid orders should have immediately been shut off. This could have easily been done instead of taking more orders than they expect to build. Ford could always re-open the order process if expected production of hybrids would increase. Instead, Ford took more orders than they could ever build, dealers took customers' substantial deposits, and customers are forced to sit with little or no information. Hybrid customers should be able to switch to a 2.0. This could be done if Ford wanted it to happen.

I hear what you are saying. But while it appears that Ford took in too many orders for the hybrid, all we are told is that the percentage of the hybrid is way higher than they planned.

It does not necessarily follow that Ford can't build these orders. Sure, they will have to step up and revise their plan. Here's hoping they can do it.

I keep seeing you say this. What does that mean? Ford isnt building these in the order they were received and your dealership can set any priority number the want. Ford is looking at specific features and options when scheduling. Please clarify exactly what this statement means and the actual consequences of a later order date.

Ford "kinda" builds in order received- based on constraints and whichever color is in the paint sprayers that week.

So changing your trim level bumps you all the way to the back of the line- of that trim level, with those constraints, etc...

I can’t speak for Tim but my take is your price protection and interest rate lock date changes and the variables involved with order processing changes your position in line at some point. It’s so complicated with order date, allocations, priority, constraints etc. are figured in.

You will not be disappointed with the EB, if changing is an option go for it. I would do it in a heartbeat if it means the difference of getting a Maverick or not.

I’d switch to EB if given the option. But because I ordered the Lariat Hybrid, at that trim the EB is only available in AWD, which is an up charge. Not interested with the extra cost.
