I'm hoping someone can help me to diagnose. Earlier this evening, shortly after I started the engine in my Maverick Hybrid, the engine started behaving like this. It was around 30 degrees F, and I did have the heat set to low, the seat warmers on low, and the steering wheel heater on. I turned the engine off, turned off the seat heaters, and restarted it. The sound and behavior disappeared, and I drove it for around 20 minutes.

Any thoughts? (link to video below).

Many Thanks in advance!

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

And now there are three (3) different threads depicting the same rough idle issue.

Seems ironic we all began seeing the rough idle around the same time????

I suspect that this rough idle might be due to running the heating system shortly after the engine initially starts. The same issue happened again this morning, and the seat warmers, steering wheel warmer, and heat were all active when I started the vehicle. As soon as I turned all of the heating systems off, the high idle went away. I restarted them after driving for about 2 minutes, and the rough idle never returned.

My hybrid made the same noise this morning. It was about 45 degrees when I started it, and it quieted after about a minute.

I’m about 15k miles in and don’t see any symptoms of the engine rough idling. However I do live in a warmer climate where the coldest it’ll ever get is 74 Degrees.

Looks like Ford needs to update the ecu map for this condition. No biggie.

I owed a 2014 C Max, same sounds, never had a problem. In my opinion, Hybrids do make strange noises over a conventional engine and you get use to it.

Electrical load immediately after startup, with the additional load of seat and steering wheel heaters, may have caused extra noise in the charging system. I did not see any engine shake, but heard more noise than expected. FWIW.

Hi there, Tom! I can look into your Maverick's noise concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Maverick's VIN?

Not my vehicle. I was suggesting what caused the original poster symptoms.

Surely this can't be normal? Look at the shake on the second video. The injectors sound loud, are they louder than normal? The few fords I have had previously always heard them click constantly but quietly. Could this be an issue of summer fuel sitting in the vehicle until winter, and not getting replaced? Shouldn't be this bad either way, just the only thing coming to mind.
