The exact same thing just happened to my Maverick hybrid on the way to work. Driving along a highway and for no apparent reason the gas pedal became unresponsive apparently the motor(s) quit. Took me a few seconds to relaize what was going on because the radio continued to play and the displays remained on, no warning lights etc.. Luckily there was not very much traffic, I coasted to the side of the road, hit the 4ways. The shift selector was in drive, I moved it to park turned the key off, turned it back on and it started right up, complete the drive with no other issues.

There is rumor of a hairline crack in the main power fuse. 300Amp or such.

Hit a bump, lose all power.
Hit another bump, regain power.
This reminds me of my mom's old VW Scirocco. The radio station would change if you went over a rough bump, and if you took a turn too quickly it would leak freon all over the passenger's foot. The car met its demise when the brakes unexpectedly went out one day while my mom was coming home from work. My mother braced for impact and bent the steering wheel and column all the way down into her lap. Car was totaled out - she was fine and walked away without a scratch.

I remember the rental car was a godawful orange-red Gremelin. She bought herself a brand new 1984 Toyota Camry after that.

This happened to me once so far also. 45MPH in cruise control, engine shut down. Pulled over, placed it in park, turn the key off/on and started up without any issue...

Same issue. on the highway doing 80k in Eco mode - lost power slowly, no response on the gas, no warning lights of any kind. Pulled over shut it off, restarted and has been fine since. 2023 hybrid XL - 1000km on it.


Twice while driving full speed my Maverick has completely shut down, no power, no indicator lights.
Was able to get to the shoulder of the road and restart the vehicle.
Dealer can’t find anything wrong.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I don’t know what to do at this point.

But sounds like a loose battery cable or cracked fuse SOMEWHERE but the trouble will be finding out WHERE.

Good luck. As always, post back results of any repairs.

Two starting points: bad 12v battery connection (known issue) cracked high current fuse (known issue).

This vehicle shut down happened with driving on the interstate.
You may want to consider deleting all your replies with your VIN on it. These forums are public, an account is not necessary to view posts and comments. Your profile information contains your city and state, along with your first name. You add that up with your VIN and dealer location, someone can find you, pretend to be from your dealer (or from Ford), and swindle you out of your car lickety split.

Send a private message to @Ford Motor Company with the info instead. Just have your curser hover over their image until a window pops up. On the bottom right is a button that says "Start Conversation". It looks greyed out, as if it doesn't work, but I tested it, and it does create a new message to them.

Or you can just click on their profile pic, you'll find the same button on their profile page.

I seen something similar like this on a lexus . You tested te fuse and it look good until you removed it . Thats when you see the crack on them . This happen to me on a customer car .

I wrote my comment poorly - the instrument panel was fine / everything on - stereo playing - just no engine power.

No proof.
But sounds like a loose battery cable or cracked fuse SOMEWHERE but the trouble will be finding out WHERE.

Did you notice if your power % meter was working? Was the needle on the power side or regen side?

At first read sound normal cause the ICE shuts off during de-acceleration or when it's not needed.

All I know is there were no warning lights or readings, the engine just shut down and there was no response to using the gas pedal. It was a shock that this happened.
