First off this has nothing to do with roll over orders ONLY new 2023 orders.

Am I the only one that thinks Ford should cancel at least 20 thousand of the 2023 Hybrid orders?. From what I have read here they took about 30 thousand orders to many for the 2023 hybrid model. Or should Ford let people hang even though Ford knows they cant even come close to fulfill those orders.

If that is what Ford does I guess they don't believe it will hurt them at all making 30 thousand people mad? Yes having your order cancelled would anger some too BUT I think more angry after waiting 12 months to be told Sorry we cant build your 2023 order BUT get in line for a 2024 at the new higher price?

Why would they do that?
Which orders do they cancel?
How do they tell the canceled people that they are canceled?

I don't know if you are the only one, but as above: don't cancel my order. I'll wait it out either '23 or '24.

They should get their act together, invest or whatever it takes and make more Mavericks. I'd like the opportunity to throw $30k+ at them and make it worth their while.

They do need to give the hybrid orderers the opporunity to switch to an EB (without resetting the order date). I suspect quite a few would take the bait, even without any kind of incentive.

It won’t be a ‘24 because Ford said you will have to reorder and get back in line if they don’t build it as a ‘23. No priority, no price protection.

I absolutely think they should at least cancel the orders they know they can’t build even if that is only a few thousand.

It's hard to do. Can't go by timestamp alone as it punishes dealers who might not have been on the computer the exact moment it went live.

So how do you do it? Cancel half of every dealer's hybrid orders to be fair? How about the dealers who actually followed the allocations limits. Do you cancel any of theirs even though they followed the rules and only ordered what they were told?

Also, we don't know what constraints will be constraints in June or July. It is the hitch today, but for all we know Ford gets a massive shipment and then it becomes some other thing. Everyone dumping their hitch could lead to just a ton of exactly similar trucks to be built with only allocation randomness to determine who gets picked.

I understand the thrust if the question. I personally would rather know today it can't be built. I just don't think Ford can point to a single order today and say that one can't be built.... Yet.

Their only alternative is to just build as many as they can until they run out of time. Given how few EB orders there are, Ford might be able reallocate some production capacity to hybrids. But that will depend on whether they can get enough parts to do so.

Why wouldn't it be a '24 if it doesn't get built as a '23? Even if I have to re-order.

And if I remember correctly Ford said no price protection but I don't remember them saying anything about priority. Which doesn't mean anything because by the time we get to that point they most likely will have changed the rules again.

So I am waiting it out, '23 or '24.

Hybrids may not be constrained by parts unavailability, but by product mix. They want to keep a 40/60 mix (or whatever it is) to either 1) get more profit from more EB’s, or 2) hit a target for total fleet mpg, or 3) both.

In other words, they could build more hybrids, but they don’t want or need to.

Okay then so most don't want them to canceled.

As far as canceling whose order i was thinking by the date the order was placed. They started the Thursday Sept 15th and went for a few days i cant remember when it stopped Monday? So Monday, Sunday orders canceled Keep Thursday Friday and Saturday orders.

I don't mind waiting but waiting for something that wont happen doesn't appeal that well with me. Plus whose is to say you wait its a no go . Then you order a 2024 and its a no go AGAIN. Granted by then maybe Toyota might have something but maybe not.

They don’t want to cannibalise their more profitable truck lines.

Or, when Ford quit selling some of their cars, they probably started coming up short on their federal total flee mpg requirement. Based on the rest of what they’re selling, they were able to estimate how many Maverick hybrids it would take to get them back on target. They know how many trucks Hermosillo can produce, so that may be why they only want to build so many hybrids.

Yeah, I know. The Maverick is probably a loss leader too. So, I accept that I must wait, impatiently. Damn, I was looking forward to those heated seats last winter. Perhaps this winter?

other hybrids trucks will almost certainly be developed, but not at the Maverick hybrid price point. Even Ford seemingly doesn’t want to sell very many of them.
