Does anyone recall how cool dual fuel tanks use to be?

Sure would be cool if, like EVs, there were different battery size options. Standard pkg gets you a 25 or whatever mile battery and for $4000 or whatever you get 150 mile battery that raises your avg mpg to 50.

1000 miles of range is something that probably 99.9% of drivers have zero need or desire for (myself included). Driving that far without stopping sounds utterly miserable. No surprise Ford doesn't have it as an option.

And would the second tank go in the bed? The bed's small enough as it is - don't waste any more space with an unnecessary extra fuel tank

My 95 F250 has dual gas tanks but it needs it if you haul or tow anything with it. Even if you don't actually. It's one of the reasons it only has 70k miles on it.

Replacement or additional tanks are not happening for gas vehicles in the U.S.

I’ve been through this recently with another new truck. Gas tanks are part of the OEM emission and evap systems and tanks must be certified as compliant.

Diesel tanks are available, gasoline tanks no.

Sometimes I wonder how someone stumbles upon a one year old thread and gets it going again.

Been a Ford truck guy all my life:

1966 F100
1978 F250 XLT Supercrew w/dual tanks
2006 F150 XLT
2022 Maverick Lariat Hybrid (soon!)

I want to focus on the dual tanks. Just how cool would it be to have a dual tank system on the Hybrid, giving a person oh, 1000 range?
When I reserved my Area 51 in the beginning of August, I did ask my dealership if dual tanks was going to be available.
The answer was nope, and with a funny look like the kid thought I was from Mars.
So I started doing some research, and ....... my Phoenix metro area has a company that can install after market fuel systems.

Guess who I'll be talking to when I get that truck in my possession hehehe.

But curious, is this something that others have even thought of, considered, desired, or is it just me ???
I much prefer to not drive further from home than one full tank of gas will allow me to go and return. Being in Texas equates to needing about 1400 mile range!😭

Assuming you're doing 100 mph (and you won't be) you'd have to drive five hours to exhaust the tank. You're going to need a break before your truck does as it is.

If you're dead set about putting in dual tanks, do it. But realize that it's not about it being practical. Realize that it's about you wanting it.
Just a thought, I actually only need a 4.3 gallon tank to get from potty to potty😭

The 'Similar Threads' list at the bottom I suspect.

In my experience dual fuel tanks are just more points of failure to deal with. Another fuel pump, level sender, more fuel lines and tank + straps to rot.

It crossed my mind to explore increased range, but I will let the fuel savings I am enjoying be the minor inconvenience for frequent fillups. I average about 1400 miles a week. I had always had an auxiliary tank in my ’current’ superduty, to give me range for a weeks worth of driving on one fill up. I‘ve been hesitant though to even have a bulk tank at home due to the votility of gasoline. You can actually drop a lit match in a bucket of diesel and it will not light, not so with gasoline. I’m not sure I want to stray too far from Fords design. One spark is all it takes to turn a good thing bad.

Unlike days of old, wouldn't an additional tank also require another fuel pump in the tank, not to mention how to pressurize it?
Personally, I would love a 1000 Mile range. I live near Phoenix and am expecting to drive to Oregon once or twice a year. I would love to go thru California without getting fuel and paying their ridiculous fuel prices but I wouldn't spent a ton of money to add another tank and I wouldn't drive straight thru either. I'll prolly just bring two 5 gallon cans in the back and accomplish the same goal without the major expense of altering the truck.

My 1995 F350 had dual 20 gallon tanks. My 2017 F250 has a single 48 gallon tank. The F350 had such poor gas mileage that you needed the optional second tank.

I am sure there is enough room under there to add a second tank, even 5 gallons, would get you at least 150 miles
