Thanks Shay, I too have experienced this problem in the beginning & it was annoying when creeping up to a stop. I agree that Ford could / should fix with s/w update, but like I've said in other posts I've learned how to drive my Mav and I don't have this problem anymore. However, when I let a family member drive it that doesn't have the same experience than it is apparent.

Ford should definitely iron out their latest quality issues across all the lines before charging thousands more for their vehicles.
I mean, this is an annoying software bug for sure, but it's not some glaring reliability or quality issue. Overall, I've been impressed with how smoothly the first year of the Mavericks production has gone. We've got off lucky compared to Sante Cruz owners who are dealing with transmission and engine failures left and right while also having chassis, brake, body, and electrical system issues. The early build mavericks just had a crappy wiring harness, which has been remedied, and touchy brakes, that's about it. Not ideal, but nothing earth shattering either. At least ford is addressing these problems unlike Hyundai.

I was referring more to all the vehicle lineups and doing more quality control in general. A few months ago they hired some guy that’s specifically supposed to crack down on quality issues to avoid all the recalls they have been dealing with.

On a 2018 Raptor I had transfer case go out with only 5400 miles on it then the hubs kept going bad and replaced twice but I trade it in cause the third time was presenting itself so I had enough at that point. On 21 Bronco sport water pump gave out and on my Mach E it would do weird software stuff like go forward in reverse but once the recall for the contacter over heating was released and people not actually getting it rightfully fixed I sold it before I was stuck waiting in service for weeks.

If you put it in NEUTRAL while you're slowing down, this problem vanishes.

Of course, you can't speed up or anything, but you can slow down and stop smoothly without the jerking.

Ford has finally acknowledged the braking problems with the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid. This video takes a walk into the issues, what people have been dealing with, why it happens and what Ford has to do about it.

Just curious, does it occur when backing up as well?

I wonder if this is the same as my observation. When creeping to a stop, the Maverick seems to maintain a constant speed and not slow down. I have to step on the pedal harder which causes a jerky stop. I'm always afraid I'm going to slam a parking block or the back of my garage.

there seems to be little to no fine control

Hey that's my NHTSA report at 4:19!

Disappointing to see only 23 reports considering how many people have this issue.

Glad Ford is finally coming out with a software fix for the brakes. I was ready to switch my ordered hybrid for an Eco just to avoid the braking issue. I may have to anyway if my hybrid won't get built.

Any way to check software levels?
Maybe with an OBD scanner?

I'm so happy to see this thread. I've had my truck for just a couple of days and have apologised excessively to my girlfriend for my braking. I just thought I had to get used to how the vehicle handles.

Thank you. The brakes are my only complaint about my truck. I was waiting for my first oil change to get this looked at. So about time it’s ready for an oil change it will be after December. I hope this reflash fixing the very rare shudder. I’ve only had it happen a handful of times. Again thank you.
The Shutter has nothing to do with the brakes, That's another problem Ford has to work on has to do with harmonic balancer causing the Shutter

Hey that's my NHTSA report at 4:19!

Disappointing to see only 23 reports considering how many people have this issue.
I am on NHTSA now to report both issues. I had an appointment for the first oil change + tire rotation. Dealership said,
For the brake concern we were unable to verify but there is a technical service bulletin that applies to Mavericks built before 04/11/23 for a shudder or vibration felt during low speed braking when the gas engine shuts down and the vehicle is operating in electric mode only. Ford says this may be due to software in the PCM, we updated the software . additionally we performed the needed maintenance ( lof and tire rotation).
I am still having both issues. The tuck going nudge nudge nudge nudge nudge (surging) randomly on cold mornings when my foot is on the break, I shift from park to drive and I have not taken my foot off the brake.

Before the abrupt breaking used to be a bit random and pulsey. Now it's more consistently the last moment of breaking you get the abrupt pad on rotor.

One thing I noticed on the hybrid was that it sometimes seems to act like it has brake hold on, but even though the button is off or never pressed for brake hold the car will require a little accelerator to break-free and roll. Mainly in my driveway, so it could be related to having just disengaged the e-brake, but seems to be the front brakes doing it.

The grabby brakes haven't been much of a problem for me since I let off the brake a little as I come to a stop like Rolls Royce chauffeurs do and so the brake doesn't grab much for me. I did think I felt the surging but very briefly and just once on a "cold" morning, but not that cold in CA, but engine was cold.

I have never used the auto hold feature. However what you describe sounds like the auto e brake // parking brake release.

Ford Maverick Grabby Brake Problem on Maverick Hybrid Explained - Video 1698074412981

My s2000 has a manual hand brake you have to release (old style).

Ford Maverick Grabby Brake Problem on Maverick Hybrid Explained - Video 1698074519989

My wife's Subaru legacy you HAVE to press a switch same as the Maverick to release the electronic parking or else it won't move.

The Maverick... you can press the switch and take the parking brake off. OOOORRRR it has auto e-brake release so you can just put it in drive and hit the Go Pedal, the truck will squat a tiny bit and it will auto release the park brake. Right after the tiny squat, BOOM you're moving.

let off the brake a little as I come to a stop like Rolls Royce chauffeurs do and so the brake doesn't grab much for me.
I need to drive my s2000 more and pay attention to how I brake with that car. I'm pretty sure I do chauffeur braking just so I don't make myself motion sick.

I have noticed the same thing in the Maverick. You can mitigate the grabby brakes by slowly releasing the brake pedal as you come to a stop. There are just times where you're trying to Hollywood stop (slowly roll past a stop sign when nobody is around), move forward in a pickup//drop off lane, pull into a parking spot or you are moving very slowly and need to stop so you have to press the pedal more and it feels like (I don't like to use this description because its not my perception, someone else came up with this) 1 hit of an ABS motor. I feel like it's just a sudden abrupt pad on rotor.

----------------------

I got my truck March 31st 2023. I'm pretty sure it was built ~2 weeks before. I think I've heard the grabby brakes issue was Mavericks built in April 2023 & before. My dealership phoned me back saying they got the replacement screen in, we talked about: yes they did update a module they found for a TSB about Hybrid Shutter (🤦‍♂️the one issue I am not having).
Other than this they said there were no specific recalls or TSBs for my VIN. They seemed a bit clueless about 22-2493 when I mentioned it to them. I'm not sure if I should keep bugging them about it or not. I filed NHTSA complaints.

What do you think @Shay? Would it be rude to bring in a print out of the TSB with
brakes grab during light braking at or below 6.2 mph
highlighted?

Any one else here specifically know if they had 22-2493 done & if you did what were your results?
