No hybrid = no interest
Spot on. The mileage we are getting from our Maverick is incredible. And the niceties, like heated steering wheel and seats, are very much appreciated. Ford rocked it with this truck!

That's just a stock image of a Maverick that some joker photoshopped.
Not really sure what this image has to do with the article...

Newsflash! Not everything you read/see on the internet (or internet forums) is real/factual.

Yep, definitely Photoshopped. Backgrounds are exactly the same.

looks great to me, after no maverick in over one year in our driveway, if its priced closer to maverick, than the santa cruz, and needs better mileage then 20-26 as my 2019 f-150 is rated.I would buy one now if they had them.

In two years my MAV will be three years old and some folks will still be waiting in line. I would consider a Toyota as a replacement. Especially if we still have a recall every six months. Toyota knows how to build a hybrid.

Should there be a vehicle, appearance at this point is just guesswork. Toyota has the RAV4 platform, gas, and hybrid to build off of. They can certainly price at the same points for a truck bed read end vs an suv rear end finish. For that matter, Honda could add a hybrid version of the Ridgeline if they chose to.

This rumor has been kicking around for a bit now. While nothing is an absolute or a fact, I can't understand for the life of me why no other car companies have copied the Maverick formula:

Step 1: take existing crossover SUV with optional hybrid engine (the Escape, Rav4, Tucson)
Step 2: stretch the chassis slightly and add a 4 to 5 foot open bed
Step 3: configure the base level trim at an attractive price point (under 30k)
Step 4: profit

People want this type of vehicle, especially if a hybrid is available. Toyota has been in the hybrid game longer than almost any other brand AND they were one of the first into the compact truck market. Something like the Maverick would fit well in their lineup and would likely sell on brand name alone. That being said, I would definitely expect anything from Toyota to be more expensive than the Maverick (at least here in the New England).

The first company that brings a comparable hybrid mini truck to market and (actually has the mean to build it, unlike Ford) will steal the Maverick's crown. The only reason that I can think of as to why Hyundai has not offered the Santa Cruz in a hybrid (using the Tucson hybrid system from which the chassis is based) is that Hyundai actually did their homework and figured out they would be unable to meet production demand for a new hybrid model, and therefore didn't offer it as an option.

TL/DR: While there is no official word on Toyota building a direct Maverick competitor, I totally believe it is possible they're working on something for as early as 2024.
because the Compact market in US was abandoned after end of last Ranger. Everyone moved on with multiple MID-sized trucks and sells a buttload at higher profit. No reason for GM or Toyota to cannibalize big mid-size sales while taking a huge investment risk going backwards trying to revive the COMPACT market. Ford guessed right and their investment paid off this time.

Kinda looks like a honda element and something from tron had a baby. But i also kinda like it. I regret to inform you that toyota is just as unlikely to deliver current model year vehicles lol our company‘s been waiting over 6 months with no end in sight for a pretty basic tundra
LoL I was gonna say the element part with a bed....vomit!!!!

With gas prices being high and people wanting smaller trucks/cars i think compact truck market is here to stay.

I sure hope so. My wife and I have driven trucks since 1999, but every "new" truck that came to market was "bigger and better" than the ones before. My last Chevy 2500 HD was so huge my wife was no longer comfortable driving it. Saw a 2000-vintage 2500 HD parked on the side of the road yesterday, and was shocked at how "small" it looked compared to the one we just got rid of...

We both love trucks, but even the "mid-sized" trucks sold today seem to be larger than the "full-sized" trucks from around 2000 or so. I would have bought a Honda Ridgeline if it were not for the truly abysmal gas mileage. Even the base Tacoma/Colorado/Ranger trucks get about the same mileage as a full-size truck these days, so what's the point?

The Maverick was a breath of fresh air. Finally, a truck that will fit in a standard-sized garage, seat four large adults in reasonable comfort (great in front, OK in rear) and has a decent payload (better than many of the mid-size trucks!). Bonus points for getting better gas mileage than my Prius-C, and for looking pretty dang sweet in the process. (Especially in Cyber Orange and Hot Pepper Red - my second favorite Maverick color!) Double bonus points for coming in well below the cost of any of the mid-size trucks, comparably equipped.

Truth be told, I would be willing to pay the same price as a Ranger for the Maverick. It's just that much better of a fit for our needs / wants / desires... (Still not willing to pay a dealer $10K over MSRP for one, though!)

Toyota Changing Its Mind About Making Electric Vehicles?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/new...A13mQpf?cvid=46c19416e1534bea9d065402fc2c35c3

According to Reuters, a group working within Toyota has been tasked with outlining the reboot plans. The team will also oversee improvements to the company's existing electric vehicle platform as well as new architecture. For now, the carmaker has suspended work on some of the 30 EV projects it announced in December.

Looks like a Maverick competitor will be years away, if ever

I find it hilarious that the article suggests that it could be branded as the "Toyota Stout".

In addition to the Maverick, perhaps it will also be positioned to compete head to head with the as-yet unannounced Chevy Lager and Stellantis Pale Ale. :ROFLMAO:

LOL, that will have a less chance of happening for marketing in the US as the '69 Mets winning the World Series :D:

Trade sanctions, NHTSA, no dealerships, freight cost from China, . . .

I just want a Maverick.
