I find it hilarious that the article suggests that it could be branded as the "Toyota Stout".

In addition to the Maverick, perhaps it will also be positioned to compete head to head with the as-yet unannounced Chevy Lager and Stellantis Pale Ale. :ROFLMAO:

not pretty, and since it won't be avail till '24. you'd get your maverick first.
You sure about that? I'm beginning to think I will -never- get my Maverick Hybrid. Almost a year now and never even scheduled.

If Toyota expects to compete, they will have to resist the urge to go bigger, more powerful, and more expensive. The Maverick Hybrid priced in the low $20k range shows that for this niche less is more. That is why the Maverick outsells the Santa Cruz and Ridgeline combined. Bigger is no longer better.

Will be my pick, if Ford can not deliver my 2023 order

A RENDERING…I’m not so keen on the auto journalists who gain web-clicks from renderings. The photoshopping and morphing of vehicles together (like this one) steals my webtime.

Great. Now will have supply chain shortages of black plastic. That’s the most black plastic on a vehicle I have ever seen. Maverick uses enough.

There is actually a lot of small pickups already manufactured world wide that could compete with the Maverick.. Many of them available as close as Mexico. But the 25% Chicken tax prevents any one of them from being economical in the US if they re not built in North America.

I have a great paid for 2018 F150 that I just will keep driving until I get my 2023 Maverick that I ordered. If I have to wait until 2024 for it then oh well. Even after I eventually get the Mav i will keep the F150 for towing and hauling. Either way I win so I will just wait.

As I said in the post after yours if you buy based on sheetmetal and paint, you're in big trouble.
An old saying: "All show and no go."
Ummm sorry, but I'm NOT gonna take my hard earned money and buy a vehicle that looks like A$$. Ya sure performance and durability are important to me. They are just as important as style is. However If I cant walk out to it every day and say to myself dayum what an attractive vehicle this is, then there isnt a point in buying it and making payments on it.

I felt this way about my 94 Silverado I bought new, that it was such a great looking truck. That's why I still have it 28 years later. As a matter of fact I drove it to work the last 2 days, and will drive it today as well. I still think it's a handsome looking truck. I plan on keeping this one right along with the maverick.

The japs and koreans must be racing to the bottom going after motor trends ugliest car of the year award if there is such a thing I have seen so many unfortunate looking grilles from these manufacturers over the years. What about the "happy faced" grilles on Honda Acura cars. First time I saw one of those I spit out my coffee laughing so hard. If I was the chief stylist on that project, I woulda laughed that designer right out of the room. They must have thought it was good making pokemon faces on it, because they styled all of em to look like it. The angry faced grille, or is it the constipated look grille on the toyota Rav 4s. The Nissan Altima grille is absolutely dreadful looking. The only jap cars that look remotely decent are ones penned in California design studios.

So if you want to go buy a homely looking jap or korean wannabe thing like a santa cruz, or whatever the hell moonbuggy looking toyota thing thats sure to show up go ahead. I wont stop you. It's your money. However dont think I wont laugh or snicker at your ride when you drive by. Oh and if you put custom wheels on it, this will be the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig.

I totally agree about the horrible styling, particularly on the Toyotas. They're SLIGHTLY better recently but for a while they were so hideous. I'd love a 4Runner at some point (used) but the ones from a couple of years back are so FUGLY. The bug eyed headlights, and the "aggressive" grille--my BIL called it an Angry Turtle.
