I wonder how many hybrids will get built in 2023.

Production for 2022 was about 10K a month, if I remember correctly.

Ford said they plan to make 30-35% hybrids.

Ford also said that they received 89,000 orders in the few days the banks were open.

Several dealers that post such things have said that interest in the hybrid was between 70-80% of their orders.

If Ford builds 10k a month that's 120k for the year.

If Ford makes 35% of those as hybrids that about 42k for the year.

If, out of the 89k orders even 60% were hybrids that would be about 53k hybrids on order.

That would mean thousands of hybrid orders not getting built and by the end of the year running out of customer ecoboost orders and making ecoboost dealer stock with the remaining production capacity.

I guess there is no way to know until this time next year, and I really hope I missed something in the news I have read that makes this whole post silly.

I hope everyone gets their truck.

Good luck all, and may the odd be ever in your favor.

Believe they will build the 86k plan but many hybrids will go wanting. Some of the hybrid orders will instead be filled by dealer Eco Boost stock orders.

Gee, as time goes on maybe Ford can make more hybrid engines. Maybe parts will become available, maybe aliens will take over Ford. We'll see.

Think a factor in all this is that seeing adds from every manufacture with their new EV lineups. So much more competition for parts with OEM manufactures unable to noticeable increase production.

Gummint keeps saying the supply chain issues are easing and things are going to be all rainbows and lollipops shortly. If that is the case maybe Ford will be able to build more Hybrids and my new FX/4 will have two keys fobs with keyless entry. :ROFLMAO: :D

Short answer is "it depends on when they start and stop."

I think Ford really wants to get Maverick model years in line with their other name plates. That means they want the change over to be roughly September 2024. Right now the published 2023 start date is mid-November. I think a lot of folks here including me think that might get pushed out further (like my 2022 XLT hybrid currently scheduled for week of November 7th).

But taking Ford at their word and figuring a mid-September 2023 model change over that will mean 10 months of 2023 Maverick production. If capacity is 10,000 units a month and the hybrid constraint stays at 35% then I'd expect to see 35,000 hybrids and 65,000 Eco-boosts for 2023 model year.

I suspect Ford is going to try to improve that 35,000 number based on the orders they actually received which might be as high as 60,000-70,000 hybrids. But ultimately if you have a 2023 hybrid on order (like I do) I would say the odds of getting it produced as a 2023 just looking at the powertrain and ignoring other constraints are no better than 75% and probably closer to 50%.

I'm also ignoring the other elephant in the room which is dealer allocations. Where you ordered your truck is going to make a big difference. How many allocations is Ford giving them and how many other customers might be in front of you at the dealership.

My daughter calls Mark Zuckerberg "The Lizardman". Not sure if he was running Ford if that would be an improvement. I guess perhaps we might all have virtual trucks under the leadership of the forked tongue Zuckerberg.

Ford wants to build every order. No business in their right mind wants to leave dollars on the table. If Ford could manage to get the parts for every hybrid order, you can believe they will do it. If they can't, then they won't. So, while it is easier to blame Ford, it isn't that simple. Ford isn't completely innocent; just know that Ford would love to sell every single one of the trucks that was ordered but just might not be able to.

Physics trumps all. You can't make what you don't have.

Gummint + Ford Maverick planning management = maximum pain for end users

As one more guy waiting for over a year now for a Maverick Hybrid, I wonder if Hyundai, Toyota, Chevy, or any of the other competitors will actually have their new hybrid out before my Maverick gets built. Obviously they probably face the same chip shortage issues that Ford does, but at this rate it feels like waiting for a Maverick is like "waiting for Godot."
