Well maybe I missed my calling and need new employment lol. I went to local Ford dealership, they have a Maverick on hand for folks to get in, test drive etc., they have had it for months.

After receiving my VIN a week ago I wanted to re-live the joy of sitting in a Maverick as I wait for build.

While there just looking her over I am approached by another customer and we began to talk. He had lots of questions, thankfully I knew the answer to them ALL after having this wait and research galore lol.

It concludes with him telling me the salesman didn’t know half of the information…..that’s sad. Guess sales folks just don’t care to have the passion and knowledge base.

Makes me want to work there a week or two so manger can’t see what it “should” be like.

Salesmen usually are uninformed, but you can't exactly staff every dealership with car enthusiasts of that particular brand. The job often pays straight commission which is a turn off for lots of people.

In order to make that dream come true, you would have to know that much about every Ford product including the commercial vehicles, the performance cars, the SUVs & crossovers, and all six different trucks. Really, it's no wonder we know more about the Maverick than a typical salesperson. This also points out why it's essential to take an active part in the purchase process by helping the dealer stay on top of all things related to the car or truck you've ordered.

My dealer has their sales folk on salary. Seems like having some specialization among the sales team would be a good idea. Every salesman would have to be an "expert" on a couple of models. Personally, I'd want Bronco and SuperDuty.

Agreed that you’d need to be as informed as possible with all the lineup, however, I would add that when you have a vehicle so popular that you had to close order books it indicates you got a lot of interest, best to be informed. Basic questions should be able to be answered. I definitely would not want the job but I think it could be a great gig if you invested work into it and be the go to guy on the lot.

I would have ordered a Maverick sooner but the salesman told me it was a CVT which I didn't want. Later I found it it was a eCVT which is good and I ordered one. (Should have ordered 2)

Salespeople in general don't know the product well. I worked in tech and we had the salesman, and a technical support assistant. The salesman had the personality and the willingness to lie through his/her teeth to hook the sale. The tech assistant corrected all the lies and made sure the customer got what they needed.

Not that different from talking heads on television. They're usually fatheads. But you like them and they sell you a narrative. It might be a pack of lies, but you don't care and neither do they.

My advice for anyone wanting to research cars is to do it at a major auto show. Spend a few hours near the cars you're interested. Ignore the pretty talking heads posted there. Listen to the car freaks who stand there and vocalize every detail you could possibly want to know. Then discretely follow that car freak around the show and just listen.

Dealerships want your money. Generally speaking they could give squat about putting you in the right car. They want your money and they want their commission. And they want to sell you a car that will generate lots of future service revenue, so they definitely don't want to sell you a BEV.

They don’t need a Maverick guy right now. There is little to no dealer stock.

I’m not sure what they have to sell these days. F150’s?

Regardless of model I got the same from my sales guy when i spoke about reordering soon maybe even a Tremor he was clueless, If that was my job wether it was a Mustang or a hybrid F150 or Escape i would have every fact at my fingertips. I would feel shamed by being schooled by my potential customer.

I went to a local dealer to look at a Maverick waiting to be picked up by the buyer, and the salesman showed it to me. He said "the EB 2.0s have two turbos" from then on I didn't ask any more questions.
