Really torn between ordering fx4 + 4k tow vs Tremor. The only part of the Tremor I really want is that double clutch rear for the "4wd" lock and rear locker modes but only for steep icy driveway and getting stuck in snow. Got dirtbikes for offroading. Anyone have experience with the bronco bs version? Is it worth it to give up the 3.81 gear ratio and tow capacity living in the mountains where steep grades, deep snow and ice are the norm? I'd normally tow 1t of pellets for my stove on a 550-600 lb trailer but maybe could retrofit in the future or just accept only my diesel x5 would tow over 2k? Thoughts?

I plan to get the Tremor myself. My driveway is like 30 degrees, has a 180 degree switchback that rolls into its steepest part and has decent ruts through out the turn. You kinda have to hit it and follow through with a steady pedal limiting wheelspin. Trucks always need 4x4, some SUVs like my 96 Bronco with Trac-Lock rear can do it in 2wd with skill. Also at the bottom of my driveway is a ditch for mountain run off during storms. Its at the low point of the valley and a little over a foot deep and just under 3ft wide. Kinda of a mini notch. I cross over that to get to my house. If we got a FX4 we would need to lift it and put the bigger tires(235s to start then 245/70s eventually) on it to clear the rut on the hill and to not scrape bumpers on the ditch notch. The Tremor has the improved bumper a better skid plates for the ruts and the fancy rear diff to keep things smooth climbing the driveway. The FX4 would do it, but it would work hard and need mods to avoid scrapage. The Tremor for about $1000 more than FX4k w/235s will do it all just fine. We are not getting rid of our Bronco and it will tow over 5000lbs with a smile. So really the 4k isnt a deal breaker and I dont have a problem bending the rules if I have to tow 4000lbs a few miles out of convienece once in rare while.

Thats my justifications. The price isnt a big difference so if you have the needs the Tremor is a better place to start. If you need to tow 4000lbs then thats your other answer.

All depends on your needs and wants. Like the first post needs clearance and more off road abilities so the tremor is better for him.

i need the towing ability so the tremor would have been out for me. I got the fx4 mostly for the appearance. I wanted the look of tow hooks and the better cluster screen. All in your preferences and needs.

I think FX4 and 4K Tow is a better overall combo for real-world utility for MOST people, myself included. I plan to use my Maverick as a hunting vehicle but it will also be my daily driver the 90+ percent of the time I'm not hunting. I also need it to haul my side by side, a ton of wood pellet fuel, etc. On my utility trailer.

Now, the Tremor has that combo beat in looks and pure off-road capability. It's cool! But still not a viable option for me personally with the 2,000-pound towing limit.

IMO, it's the ground clearance/angles that really hold back the Maverick. It has a pretty robust AWD system.

Agree. But you can lift an FX4 with 4K Tow but you can't double the towing capacity on a Tremor.

Wowza you have it harder then us! were almost as steep and 4 switchbacks here, but paved and no ditches so would never be lifting a wheel. I'm wondering how big a difference that rear "locker" will make in just ice/snow vs. loose sand and ruts/ditches.

Right the 3.81 final drive and cooling capacity of the 4k is what's pushing me that way since I live in the mountains and drive exclusively hills everywhere and will tow. Think personally I'm leaning 4k + fx4 either way such an awesome small truck!

My original order I just had FX4, but the more I thought about it I really wanted the added utility of the 4K Tow so I added it about two months after my January order. I am really glad I did, as I think you get an awful lot for $745, and I just got scheduled for production yesterday!

Will be fun to see the head-to-head when a Tremor becomes available.

Really depends what you prioritize. If I didn't need 4K towing, I'd consider a Tremor. But I agree, the FX4/4K is a more "complete" overall package, IMO. I'm not sure a Tremor will go anywhere a FX4/4K would not. Might do it a little easier, but I don't think it would be a case of go, or no go.

Time will tell!

For me that rear end will react faster then the spin braking type traction system in the FX4. I think that will keep wear down and more gravel on my hill. Spin is the enemy in keeping my driveway decent.

But if you gotta tow over 2k thats your answer. As for the hills and such the Tremor does have the bigger trans cooler but not the bigger radiator. No worries for mountain driving but on the transmission but long steep grades will run the motor hot over 2k atleast. I do plan personally on finding cooling upgrades eventually anyways.

Just out of curiosity, is the 4k tow package no longer constrained? I know for a while there it was in pretty hot demand and short supply. Maybe that's not the case these days..

Interesting, is there any way to know when placing the order with the dealer what's long lead vs normal-ish? This will be my first new vehicle order. Not in a huge hurry but I'd like to get the truck before this time next year placing an order day 1 when the order banks open.

The constraints were being updated and shared almost weekly about a year ago. Unfortunately, I think Ford put a stop to it by strongly advising against employees/dealers sharing that kind of information publicly.
