Looks like good data to my dinosaur brain! I wonder why low beam lights were better for the collision avoidance.

The headlight thing doesn't make sense, the Mavericks headlights are far better than many vehicles, the nice thing is that the low beams stay on when the high beams are activated, so you can see both near & far. Since vehicles went away from sealed beams to composite, most do not activate both at the same time.

It’s interesting. Idk either. Seems like headlights distinguish a lot with their ratings. Especially b/t top safety pic and top safety pick plus. The later seems to be the cars with the higher trims and thus better LED lights?

The high beam lights might cause reflections that make it harder for the camera to see a pedestrain? That's the only possibility I can come up with.

Say what? The Maverick headlights are quite average in performance compared to other cars. I’ve owned many vehicles with both LED and HID setups (factory), both projector and reflector. Of all of them, the Maverick is very close to or at the bottom in terms of headlight performance. If you’re coming from a vehicle with halogens, then I can see how the Maverick would be a huge step up. But otherwise it is extremely average.

Also, can you please tell me about all these modern cars that switch off their low beams when the high beams are on? I’ve owned at least one car from every major automaker from Japan, Korea, and Germany in the past 20 years and so for have not encountered a single one that turns off the low beams upon activating high beams. I see that occasionally on GM vehicles of the 2000s and 2010s but to say “most cars” is wildly inaccurate. The vast majority of cars today run both low and high at the same time.

The AEB system doesn't work above a set speed, if I recall correctly, so if you are going 60MPH you've got nothing to worry about.

I think it may be the opposite of what most replies are saying, that lows are on with highs. I think its a contrast reading that too bright washes away detail.

Have had many cars with AEB and none of them have been sensitive enough to brake for a bird. I have had “phantom” braking events, but you know it is about to happen because the car warns you. And it’s very easy to drive through. In no situation is AEB going to slam on the brakes, without warning, so hard that you’re going to get rear-ended.

I noticed there is now front collision avoidance testing results via IIHS.

I keep noticing that seat belt reminders are "poor". I mean how much more annoying can a system need to get. It's got lights and chimes and a popup when you start the car to show you which seat is latched that is in the way of controls until you wait or reset and i'm sure there is an occupied rear seat warning if I ever used it (i'd rather a six-foot bed).
