I just spent a good amount of time putting 1500 miles on the Maverick this week. I can report a couple of strange issues with braking the truck at very low speeds (i.e., one or two feet per second).

In one case, I was in a hotel parking lot looking at parking spaces. I was going only a few inches per second when all off the sudden the truck slammed to a stop. I said to my wife I think I hit a curb (it was dark outside), so I put the truck in park and got out to take a look. To my amazement, there was no curb but rather a clear lane. What I had experienced in the driver's seat was a "thud" and hard stop, as if the truck had run into a tall 90 degree curb.

The second issue I've experienced is with the truck seemingly not wanting to stop at very low speeds, like at a restaurant drive through. It's not that I'm unable to stop the truck, but sometimes it feels like I have to step on the brake very hard to do so. When the truck does finally stop, the brakes grab suddenly rather than smoothly and makes the truck dip in the front. I've been driving for decades, but this issue makes me look like I'm still in driving school.

Can't help but to wonder how many other owners are experiencing these anomalies and what safety implications there are? Also, I'm not a mechanic but wonder what impact these issues are having on the truck's suspension, drive train, steering or other systems.

I prefer anything less than 20 mph time to use LOW (less hydraulic braking and maybe engaging 100% at less than 2-3 mph instead of 5-6mph, hard to say exactly) although it has advantages in higher Regen braking up to 40mph allowing less hydraulic braking. Much easier to get 98-100% Regen braking.

This is documented all over this forum.

Ford really needs to do a software update. This is an issue between switching between regen and friction braking, IIRC.

I've had exactly the same experience right down to thinking I had hit something slowly entering a parking spot. Come on, Ford. Figure this out already.

I didn’t experience this until the other day in stop and go traffic. I had figured it was what I had read earlier. Thanks for reminding me that this is normal, but concerning/annoying.

Good morning! I would like to take a look at your Maverick's brakes on my end. To get started, could you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer?

As I posted on another thread, if the Maverick and Escape hybrids share the same system why does the Maverick have this problem and the Escape doesn't? What's the difference or does the Escape also have braking issues?

Definitely the worst part of the Maverick. I find myself hovering over the brake as opposed to heel down on the ground to account for how sensitive this truck is at low speeds. You can learn to manage it (for me, it rarely happens anymore) but the learning curve is real

Very good questions for Ford. Never owned an Escape.

I really appreciate all of the comments about the learning curve of the Maverick brakes. Whenever I get a 23 ordered and delivered it will be my primary vehicle. My concern is that my wife will be an occasional driver. Will these brake anomalies be a problem for an occasional driver? I know every vehicle is different but these issues seem to go beyond a different feel. Seems like you have to relearn how to use the brakes. Thanks for the input.

Same concern here, she might avoid wanting to drive our only vehicle as a result.

I saw that feature, but is the resulting conversation private or can everyone see it?
