Just got back from a 12-day 3200 mile trip through New Mexico and Colorado. Other than the barreling down interstates at 80+mph with three bikes strapped to it and loaded down with 1000+lbs of people and gear killing my overall MPG averages, I didn't worry about anything. Overall, the experience was great.
livin' life baby! no worries!

My guess is never when you worry that way. Buy the AAA extended miles tow for peace of mind and go. I think it also has travel insurance included for hotel stays over 100 miles from home.

Two weeks ago I took my son to college at the university of Michigan. I live in Austin texas. I had 2980 miles on the odometer when I left. Round trip was 2776 miles so I almost doubled my miles in one trip. I drove it in 4 days total. Not one problem the whole trip. Was very comfortable and averaged just over 36 mpg doing 75 mph most of the way.

like others have said, there’s no way of knowing if you’re going to have a problem. Keep in mind every person that has a problem is going to be highlighted on this site which makes those problems seem more extensive than reality bears out, but most people will never have an issue.

8k+ miles on Lariat Hybrid, don't have the higher level tech/lane assist etc, but no problems at all, other than Android Auto (that's an app issue!) May be jinxing myself, but I love the vehicle.

Ford has delivered like 40k hybrids. A few dozen (at most) have had this issue. Let's say... 40.

So, 40/40000 is 1/1000.

I'm comfortable with that.

So, I’ve got about 6500 miles in on my Maverick and I’m fixing to do a 1500 mile round trip road trip. So far I’ve not had the dreaded Hybrid Dead on Road issue, and was wondering about my comfort level that everything will be ok.

I haven’t tracked it, but it seems like those who have had the issue had them early on. The NHTSA web site lists 20+ some complaints on the issue.

What’s everyone’s comfort level...

Good luck getting Ford to replace a trouble free harness with a new "known good " harness.

Keep us updated on that project.

Has your Maverick actually been "unreliable"? Or have you just deemed it unreliable becuase somebody else's was unreliable?

Unless Ford can isolate a specific batch of faulty wiring harnesses, I want mine replaced with a known good part, or tested to a standard of proof. Until then, I consider it unreliable.

Where are you all getting 40K hybrids delivered? YTD thru Jul/2022 was 45.5K units, both EB and hybrids combined...assuming 2/3rds are EB and 1/3rd are hybrids, those figures seem high

You know they were producing Mavericks last year, too, right? And the split is 40% hybrids.

I do have some concern about the "dead hybrid" issue but it won't stop me from taking trips. I bought a portable jump charger. If I have to use it I'll have the dealer replace the harness when I get home. It does not appear to be a catastrophic problem. Trucks are dead after you turn them off but do not die while cruising down the road.

Based on what you've written, it seems like you just need to sell your Maverick instead of worrying about it. We'd all be better off.

I had the check engine and battery warnings, but after a few minutes, it started up clean.

My driving is mostly around town, and we have a reliable Toyota we can use for trips.

And there have been a significant number of owners reporting the harness issue. You can dismiss it if it makes you feel better, but the problem is real.

Apparently, it annoys you when I discuss this defect. If you want to believe the truck is reliable, that’s your prerogative. You needn’t worry about my contributions to this thread, where opinions on this matter were explicitly solicited.

It's not the discussion of the potential defect. It just makes me sad to see someone suffering so much in their distrust of the truck. Better to not have it than to distrust it so much... If you don't feel comfortable driving it, what's the point?

I bet if you go on a forum dedicated to your "reliable" Toyota, you'll find plenty of anecdotes about people having significant issues. I've owned about a dozen cars, the least reliable (by a huge margin) was the vehicle with maybe the best reputation for reliability in the industry: a corolla.

Modern cars are incredibly reliable, but that doesn't mean 100% of them will be. I don't buy cars that I don't feel comfortable driving and definitely don't let fear control my life. If by chance something happens, I deal with it then.
