If Nathan decided to jump off a cliff without a parachute would you follow because he is awesome?
Hahaha. Yeah, this entire thread confuses me. But to each their own.

lol.... I love these people saying you can't compare certain things because of this or that.....which is in fact actually comparing them anyway.

You can compare anything you want, it's the whole point of comparing.... to see what's different, better, worse, etc..

I was choosing between another F150 or the Mav. How's that for a good comparison! :p

Price difference doesn’t matter that much here . Both are compact trucks . Both have AWD system . One has hybrid . Price asides it’s the only comparison in its own segment

In addition to the SC's terrible fuel mileage, it cannot stand up to the hybrid-standard Maverick in regards to payload. Whoever heard of a truck of any kind limiting payload weight in the bed? SC specs no more than 660 pounds in the bed, which is only a portion of its rated payload.
I'm not really a fan of the Santa Cruz with their current fuel-thirsty engine lineup. I just don't understand why they don' t have the hybrid (or plug-in hybrid) powertrain available, since it's the same chassis and setup as the Santa Fe, which has both hybrid options available...

But with that said, can you point me to a published document from Hyundai stating that the bed capacity is limited to 660 lbs? I cannot find anything that says that - only the repeated statement that the max vehicle payload is 1411 lbs, with the exact same definition that Ford uses (as mandated by the DOT), and explanations how that payload must be a combination of cab / bed / tow hitch tongue weight loads...

I also saw / heard some early claims that the SC could only carry 660 lbs max load in the bed. I believe that rumor started with a reviewer who stated that if four adults (at 85 Kg, or 187 lbs) were to occupy the cab, it would leave only 301 Kg (or roughly 660 lbs) available for loading in the bed. That is accurate, but others picked up on the "660 lbs in the bed" line and repeated it as "reportedly claimed" without debunking it.

Since that early review, I've seen multiple reviews (both Canadian and US) validating the 1411-lb payload, with the same provisos that apply to the Maverick's claimed "1500-lb" payload (which can actually be quite a bit less in many - if not "most" - trim specs)... The vehicle's payload is the maximum carrying capacity of the combined loads carried in the cab, the bed, and the weight of the trailer tongue (if any). In the case of the "1500-lb" Maverick, four 185-lb adults in the cab would mean you could carry only 760 lbs in the bed. Add a 2,000-lb trailer with a 200-lb tongue weight to your 4-passenger load, and the amount you can carry in the bed drops to 560 lbs. Don't take those numbers as gospel, however, since the AWD EV Lariat/Lux/360 model I looked at has a max payload figure posted in the door label that was significantly below that 1500 lb claim...

But in any case, the Maverick has the higher payload than the SC, even though the trailer towing capacity is lower than the SC (2000 vs 3500 for 2WD Mav / SC, and 4000 vs 5000 for AWD Mav / SC).

I based it on reviews from 2021 and 2022. Hyundai's web site doesn't say 660 pounds, though they DO make a differentiation between the maximum payload and the cargo carrying capacity, which are the same with a Ford.

I'd be driving it right now instead of our Volvo XC-40.
Man, I wanted to love our XC40 but that powertrain is just.. shit. 21mpg and turbo lag for days. But it was such a nice vehicle to spend time in as long as you didn't have to drive it. Ours had Sensus, which I really liked, but then Volvo transitioned to Android Automotive, and I knew my relationship with Volvo was over. I thought the XC40 would fill the void left behind by our Porsche Macan S. Boy was I wrong there.

We've had two R-Design T5s. I can't really argue with you about the engine not being top of the line - a bit crude for almost $50K. We love them mainly because they pack a lot of luxury utility into a small package (174"). In my dreams Porsche releases a mini-Macan based on the Taycan BEV platform. But nobody in the market seems to want to make a truly small luxury SUV. Americans just don't want small anything. The makers of the Triplets of Belleville were so right.

Yeah, I liked the size of the XC40. Ours was also a T5 R-Design in Bursting Blue. IIRC, the transmission was an Aisin 8-speed, basically the units found in Toyota vehicles? That was my main gripe - it was a slushbox in every sense of the word. Shifts were painfully slow, causing the boost pressure to fall, and you would actually feel your body lean forward during acceleration because of the sudden loss of power. It wasn't dangerous or anything, just super annoying. Otherwise, great package. But couldn't stand to drive it and got rid of it at 5,000 miles.

We kept the Macan S till 47k miles. Upkeep is not for the faint of heart. But I am seriously considering another Macan and have my eye on one right now at a local Mercedes dealer.

As someone who has owned both the SC and a Maverick I can say I like the look and style of the SC over the Maverick. The only downside to the SC is how much space is taken up by the tonneau cover and there not being a hybrid option.

I bought the SC because I was frustrated with the lack of communication about when I might get my Maverick. I owned it for about 7 months before my Maverick finally arrived and I traded it in for it. Came out even on the trade in. If I hadn't come out even on the trade in I would have kept the SC. Only reason I traded it was for the better gas mileage and ACC.

oddly enough I find the AWD setup in the maverick and BS to be vastly better than subarus. While i do like subaru, the wilderness package skimps on some QOL items that surprises me.

I took a BS Badlands through its paces in 100* plus weather and had zero issues. Also what's over heating is the twin clutch rear end and subaru doesn't even have anything like that on there cars. It can over heat when getting alot of wheel spin, it's not perfect but it's pretty damn good.

Not many manufacturers make AWD cars to the amount Subaru does. The impreza out of the box is a nice little car for sure.

My opinion comes from personal use and it's been backed up by some YouTube lol I had a 17' outback and it was great do not get me wrong but I find the maverick and BS setup and logic to be smarter and faster. I personally like the FWD bias more than the always AWD setup that subaru uses. My outback could get a little bindy on u turns and such. Driving sports TV does a head to head between an outback wilderness and a maverick as well if your interested.
