Been thinking about the new bill and really would like a Plug-in Maverick, which at this point ordering is a year or two away. Told my wife would like to trade the Maverick, scheduled but not built in 2-4 years for a plug-in. She was not pleased at all.

Do people know the specifics of the bill and if a Plug-in Hybrid would qualify for the $7,500 rebate or credit.

The dealer said would take my x-plan month after ordering, then said we'd have to talk about it with the owner since did not have an x-plan number when ordering. This was last month when notified them about my VIN. So compromised and should not have, but said as long as they do the $100 doc fee, know you don't have a lot of vehicles and want to be fair. Then found out some walked in and bought a turned down order for MRSP. See a few more popping up on the site so name match may become an issue.

Well, if they can renegotiate after the fact figured I can as well. Unless they will do better and give me the x-plan thinking of the unheard of, walking away from my order with a Sept 12 build day so a 10/10 roughly delivery date.

So like to hear your opinions and do have a military coupon code, which think will fail since was hurt and could not extend my service many decades ago. Perhaps if they could make the coupon code work is a fall back when they remind me that made a $500 deposit, which probably is non refundable.
So many questions and "ifs" I'd keep your order and accept your Mav. The plugin would save you slightly in fuel and cost more to buy. A bird in the hand.....................

Plug-ins do not, and assume, will not qualify for the full $7500 tax incentive.
Actually, they do. PHEV is just as eligible for the current $7500 federal tax credit as BEV. Not all BEV receive the full amount either, by default. It's based on the battery capacity; a PHEV with a large enough battery pack would get the full amount. Whether any new legislation passed in the future would change that is unknown at this time.

For vehicles acquired after December 31, 2009, the credit is equal to $2,500 plus, for a vehicle which draws propulsion energy from a battery with at least 5 kilowatt hours of capacity, $417, plus an additional $417 for each kilowatt hour of battery capacity in excess of 5 kilowatt hours. The total amount of the credit allowed for a vehicle is limited to $7,500.

Plug-ins do not, and assume, will not qualify for the full $7500 tax incentive. Plus, as written, no car in production today will qualify for the incentive due to constraints of material from China, as well as limits on sale price. Also, I believe the current tax incentive ends the moment the bill is signed into law, followed by the new rebates being for vehicles sold after Dec. 31 this year.

This is Congress so of course they write bills that rarely work as expected.
Reminds me of that joke...
If "pro" is the opposite of "con", then what is the opposite of progress? 🤣

Add in lobbyists and that is exactly who writes these bills. The congress critters don't even read them before they vote (in many cases), they rarely write them.
and here we are keep voting to keep them in Congress. There must be term limits for every public servant. Four years and you're done.

Seems like alot of debate over speculation and not clear details. I don't see why you don't just pick up your current order as long as the deal is good then just reorder when the model you want comes and trade in.

All these what if and speculative features/specs mean nothing.

As the saying goes....wish in one hand and sh*t in the other, and see which on fills up first.

Deal with what's in front of you and worry about the proposed better version in 3 years when it actually comes.

Because it's a top line Lariat it will depreciate much more and after 3-4 years will be worth less than a new base model, which is a lose of over 12k. Not chump change, can't cancel since it's schedule and do like the idea of having it. Seems like once the Tremor and Black appearance surfaced, it seems that future changes are in the works. Some of the glow and excitement has waned, but sure that will change after test driving it.

What has become clear is a PHEV Maverick will be covered in the new bill provide you don't make 150k individually or $300k married. Final assembly is in North America and the new batteries will be from Fords new Oval City in the United States.

Note the existing tax credit expires the moment the new bill is signed into law, which will probably be early next week. The only exception is for binding contracts that exist prior to the bill being signed.

So unless you have a committed purchase agreement with non refundable deposit in place in the next day or so, you won’t get the existing credit, PHEVs included.

That was true before, however, based on what I’ve read, once the bill passes and is signed, the new incentive will be an actual rebate deducted at the time of purchase.
and the car companies will be quickly increasing their sticker price by about oh 3-5K on them since they knowing the buyer is getting 7500 in 'free' (right) money.

Electric is arguably still worse for the environment , they should have to pay extra taxes, rather than get incentives.
Until you drive one and realize it is superior. The argument they are worse for the environment is pure BS mostly put out by people/groups that don't want or are just afraid of change - or have a political agenda that involves keeping oil companies happy.

EV buyers DO pay extra taxes because they are MORE EXPENSIVE. EV's are coming and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Embrace them, don't fight them ;)

As to the new incentives, the main thing to understand is that they already exist today. This "new" bit just extends them instead of allowing them to expire or deplete as currently written into law. A lot of brands were going to mature out of the program as sales were limited to 100,000 vehicles per brand. Now they can keep rolling for a while longer. Nothing new here, just more of what we have now.

agree. If EVs are the 'big thing' now then what's the need for a 7500 incentive? It's either a big thing or it's not.
Right on... bro

7500 of our tax dollars going to fill the pockets of people who could give rats butt about the environment let alone the consumer tax payer. who ever is selling anything for this rebate to be used has already artificially increased the price of it by 7500.

We live in the world of Bizzaro and all this helicopter money of puppies and butterflies are going to come back and bite this civilization right in the rear.

Don’t forget you get a $500 rebate on almost all Ford trucks ( don’t think it is good for the Lightning.) only $20 to join Farm Bureau. You do not have to be a resident of Illinois, be a farmer, or own farmland. Good for buyers in all states.Phone number to join is 309-663-6497.
