Looks to me Hyundai is having more trouble than Ford producing their little pick up.

Like I mentioned in the Ford monthly report thread Hyundai's production/sales expectations didn't seem to be very high for the Santa Cruz even before it launched. Meanwhile they've produced 100k Tucsons this year which shares the same factory line. And Hyundai doesn't really do custom orders so they can produce whatever proportion they want and not necessarily be disappointing customers.

I’d hate see maverick being the only compact truck out there if they decide to cut cruz .. competition is important to improving a segment of vehicles. .

The Maverick is more desirable than the Santa Cruz for a few reasons:

#1 The Maverick comes in a hybrid.
#2 Pickup guys like ... well pickups. The Santa Cruz styling is out there for traditional pickup buyers.
#3 The Maverick has a more useful bed. The "storage compartment" in the SC bed isn't very large.
#4 Price. Want power? You can get a base Maverick with FWD and a 250 hp turbo motor. To get the turbo in the SC you are paying on average $10k more than the maverick.
#5 MPG. The Maverick 2.0L Ecoboost has better EPA numbers even than the non-turbo 2.5L SC with 59 more hp to boot.

Perhaps they'll try a more aggressive, bold design for 2024. I'm thinking an even larger grille, one that actually wraps around the sides and across the doors. Plastic wheel well tabs that travel up the fender and stick up in the air about 8 inches. And introduce a wide array of new designer interior colors including jet black, onyx black, obsidian black, and a fun licorice black.

I very well might've gone with the SC instead of the Maverick if Iit'd come in a hybrid, or at the least not had abysmal mpgs. I think is awful rating for gas mileage was a huge killer. You can't sell an "urban adventure vehicle" when it only gets low to mid 20s.
