I just did a build, and P225 R17 A/T and P235 R17 A/T tires are offered with the Lariat FX4.

There seems to be no difference in price. I am not an off-road guy, and never have been, so I have no idea how much difference there is between the two widths. Either way (225 or 235) you get the same tire wall ratio, which is important as well.

Honest question from off-road ignorance: are widths and tire wall height equally important?

The configurator is broken. The dealership will not let you do it.

I never rotated my spare into my tire rotation just because it didn't match my other wheels, plus I figured as long as I kept making sure the air pressure on it, I was good. What are the benefits of adding the spare into the regular rotation. How much does it lengthen the life of the tires overall? I'm guessing it must be good otherwise why do it?
I am a mechanic for 30 years.. Second generation.. never in my life have I heard of someone rotating the spare with other tires...

wow wow wow... that is loooowwww . I measured my F150, I'm used to sitting at about 36 inches off the ground. This is only 28". Very well may be shopping for a 4-6 inch lift kit.

Also, thanks for the pics!

Gotta have heated seats so need Lux- Looking like 1250 payload with those options, still better than our Highlander by 50 LBS

You might want to consider total cost of what you wish to accomplish. If you are in Salt Lake City, you are also 4300 ft above sea level. That needs to be factored in also, (2% for every 1000 ft). Also 20% buffer to be safe. Have those parameters been considered in your calculations?

1. what comfort level of trailer do you need over the life of the trailer (10 years) Trailers are not going to get cheaper because they are experiencing the same type of shortage problem.

2. choose the tow vehicle to fit the trailer.

I could spend $40,000 and get a trailer that could meet the requirements of the Maverick. $40,000 Trailer + $28.000 Maverick = $68,000 total OR $24,000 Trailer + $34,000 Nissan Frontier = $58,000 . You now have 10,000 to spend on the difference in lower mpg. BUT, you also have more power, less strain on the engine (V6), greater choices in travel trailers, a safer all around experience. I am looking at ordering the Shasta 21CK. It comes in at 3890 lbs dry weight. I will also be getting weight distribution and anti-sway equipment. This keeps me safe as I can possibly be.

If you go beyond calculated limits your insurance may not cover you in the event of an accident. You may also be ticketed.

I am still going to get a maverick, but the hybrid version for intown driving.

That is the misunderstanding about tow capacity and payload, they are not mutually exclusive.

The thing is you do NOT want to max out your capacity anyway to be safe. to top it off most people WILL NOT invest in a brake controller and many people DO NOT even know what a brake controller is. On top of all that people will try to max out tow capacity without allowing the suggested 20% buffer. Then when disaster happens it can be catastrophic. How many people know what to do if the trailer loses the connection except for the chains, OR begins to sway because they loaded it unevenly or too much weight toward the rear? Heaven forbid they buy a weight distribution hitch or invest in anti-sway bars.

With the Maverick, I could only tow a trailer that weighed about 3500lbs with only clean water in it. The maverick itself would have 2 passengers and a generator. Because of that, I opted out of the ecoboost engine and switched to the Hybrid. I will buy a 2022 Nissan Frontier for hauling and use the Maverick for my in city driving/casual driving.

The Maverick basically is a car with some towing capability and truck-like features. It needs to be understood as that and nothing more. Otherwise, we will see some disastrous results(I HOPE WE DON'T) of people trying to push it beyond what it is capable of.

At least now you are aware of the limitations. BE SAFE FOR YOUR OWN AND FAMILY'S SAKE!!!
I think of it as the same niche as the old Chevy luv. My grandfathers is still running (Isuzu diesel) in my cousins care and it’s older than I am

Now you have

Five (5) Tire Rotation
While many vehicles are equipped with temporary spares that cannot be included in a tire rotation program, if the vehicle's four wheels and tires on the ground match the spare wheel and tire (if non-directional and not branded "for temporary use"), they should be included in the tire rotation pattern. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's recommended tire rotation procedures, or if not available, insert the spare in the right rear position at every rotation. Place the tire that would have gone to the right rear in the trunk as the spare until the next tire rotation.

  • On front-wheel drive cars with full-size matching spare, rotate the tires in a forward cross pattern (Figure F)
  • On rear-wheel or four-wheel drive cars with full-size matching spare, rotate the tires in a rearward cross pattern (Figure G)

Five tire rotation results in equally distributed use that will help maintain equivalent tread depths on all five tires throughout their life. When applied to many four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles, this is required to prevent driveline damage if a flat tire forces a new spare to be put into service with partially worn tires on the other three wheel positions.

Hey Great - if you go by today, can you measure and take a photo of the bed rail gap and profile, including top width, where you'd clamp a ladder rack? Absolutely no info on this anywhere, would be super helpful to figure out an Extang tri-fold with bolt on sliding ladder rack!

Thanks for the photos. I hope the wheel liners are not fabric as they appear to be. Noticed this preproduction unit was built in May 2021. Hmmmm, hope their getting al the bugs worked out.
Yes the wheel well liners in the front are fabric and the rear are plastic.

That is because you are use to working on cars with donut spares, probably more late model passenger cars . Full size spares, truck spares are different. Check out this article and go down to "Rotate the Spare In" section. How to Rotate Your Car Tires Correctly | The Art of Manliness .

This is why I have come to the conclusion that the Maverick is more of a car with truck attributes. Not a knock on it because it has its place. We just have to be aware of what that place is and NOT make it something it is not meant to be.

Smaller wheel means more sidewall which is what you want off road.
Hmm, I used to go in the opposite direction when I used to jeep. I went with bigger tires for a bigger footprint for more traction. Including letting air out of my tires to fatter them up more for sandy trails.

It is a car, not a truck, VERY comfortable to sit in and get out of.
