It would be interesting to know how many people who work at dealerships, or are friends or relatives of salespeople will have Mavericks ordered just to flip them or decline the Maverick when it comes in just so that the dealership can sell it. I would assume that it is a lot but I have no way of knowing. There may also be people who want a Maverick so they ordered two with different options to increase their odds of not having a long delay to at least get one of them. When the shortage ends I would suspect the backlog will quickly decrease since a lot of the orders may not be by people who want to actually own a Maverick.

You can't make money on an Eco or Lariat. You literally have to order an XL or XLT Hybrid, which we see how quick Ford builds those and do so to flip it. Keep the options of it and hope by the time it show up and you paid the taxes and delivery to get it that you can still turn a profit. I can think of easier ways to make money. But go for it if that is your thing.
That's news to me. I ordered a 2022 XL Ecoboost FWD - basic spec, nothing on it, $22,575 MSRP - for my dad who ended up not needing it. I kept it for a month and auctioned it off via Carmigo (they only auction to dealerships) on Memorial Day weekend. The high bidder was a Chevrolet dealership in Mississippi at $34,500. They picked up the truck June 6 from my home and ACH deposited the payment at the moment of pickup. After taxes/fees (including capital gains taxes) and everything I still came out about $8k ahead.

I'd say that is not bad for getting to put 2,000 miles on a Maverick, getting familiar with it, etc. I didn't buy it to sell it but I also did not need it for myself. So no, I would say you do not need to be a hybrid to make profit on selling your Mav.

Good for you bud. This has to be about the dumbest topic on here. Will you be able to do that exact same scenario next year with a 23' (The actual question)? Could you get that for it today? Don't answer, I really don't care. Order away. Hope it works out for you.

People will do it, because there is basically zero risk.

Deposit is refundable, so if the used market goes into a slump you just get your money back.

Honestly I may order a 23 and trade in my 22 when it arrives. Should be able to make a few thousand and a new truck with 0 miles. The more I think about the more it seems stupid not to.

Going to order 2. Sell a 23 and keep one. I'll sell my 22 I currently have.

Did it once already and made 5k over my OTD.

Anyone who tries and talks you out of it is a hater. Sell that shit and make some money.

Just don't be the one stuck holding the bag when the market does correct.

Flipping is for adults not kids.

I have two 2022 orders that I am going to re-order as 2023s. I will probably sell the first one that comes in, if the second one is scheduled by then. I have to see what the market is like whether its worth the headache or not. Earlier this year I offered it up for cash + $2,000. Will have to see if someone still wants to do that by then.

Even though the market will still be bad, I have a feeling there will be a lot less buyers since the 23 MY will be open. They will still be waiting 9-10 months but they might not think that far through.
I personally hope you lose money for doing that.

Higher interest rates are going to be a sticking point for anyone thinking of ordering and selling. There has been one price increase in the MSRP and add ons, and another planned. There's also a historic interest rate increase planned by the Feds, which is going to increase payments for loans, whether it be vehicles or houses.

I'm glad I made the decision to buy someone else's hybrid Maverick XLT in VB that they turned down on 30 March! I gave up my order when I purchased. I did get the dreaded email from Ford like everyone else did, but I suspect the dealer kept my order, as they plan to sell it at market adjustment value.

I plan on buying two more. An XLT with Lux and a Lariat Lux. My wife and daughter will both need cars in a year so this works out great.
I am 13 months waiting on my 22 so they can get familiar with it and if the market improves or they find something they like better I can walk away and the dealer can sell them.

I was playing around with the idea it's just too much work for a few k return. I've also gotten attached to my lil guy. I'll wait for the AWD hybrid. At that point hopefully production issues are mostly behind us and ford can start actually advertising. Then we will see demand go through the roof and prices will still be crazy for trade ins/selling. All that said I'll still order one for funsies. Easy way to keep your dealer friendly.

Yep, bubble is starting to burst. Sure some places people are making money still, but it is tailing off. You still have to take delivery/pay the taxes in order to sell it too, which means paying Fords destination charges, I don't think people who are spec ordering have thought this through too well.
What proof do you have that the bubble is bursting?

Not going to sell mine. I want one as I have back issues and neuropathy and climbing into my Ram 1500 is at times painful and difficult. I considered ordering a Maverick early last summer, then with all the orders going in I thought I might not get it for months, so I held off. Now, despite the fact I probably still won't see it for months, better fuel mileage and ease of access outweigh the wait.
I even considered opting to buy a used Escape with the 2.0L EB as I like my wife's 1.5L so much. It handles great and the feeling of torque is always a welcomed thing. The 2.0L in the Maverick should be a blast.
I even considered the Santa Cruz but they're just as difficult to find in more affordable trim levels as it a Maverick.
